Vermont high school students are spending their summer vacations learning all about health careers at Mt. Ascutney for this year’s Southern Vermont AHEC- Area Health Education Center MedQuest! Students are currently experiencing hands-on clinical skills workshops, interactive presentations, and real-world job shadowing. MedQuest aims to help students pursue a healthcare career close to home once they graduate.

Brooklyn, a junior, said, “I have had a lot of fun with the simulation lab. That was very exciting to get to practice on all the mannequins and learn how these processes work in a real hospital,” and "I’ve enjoyed being able to talk with the mentors that are in med school. It is kind of inspiring to see people who are already living the life that you hope to have.”

We have been working closely with the NH Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) regarding recent cases of Cyclosporiasis that were likely contracted through consumption of contaminated Taylor Farms lettuce served prior to the national recall.

We’ve proactively examined our food supply across the system to ensure the safety of our patients and employees:

Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital (APD) has not served the recalled product and is halting the use of all other Taylor Farms products. APD has resourced alternatives.

Cheshire Medical Center immediately pulled all affected products when the recalls were issued. Out of an abundance of caution, the salad bar has been closed until they are confident in the safety.

Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics Southern Region Cafés at Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics Manchester and Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics Nashua (which also service Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics Concord's “grab and go” options), discontinued the use of Taylor Farms lettuce as soon as the recall was issued. We are using alternative lettuce products from our food service vendor.

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) does not serve the recalled product and is halting the use of all other Taylor Farms products. DHMC is in the process of finding local alternatives.

Hampstead Hospital does not use Taylor Farms lettuce.

Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center (MAHHC) and Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) have not used Taylor Farms lettuce and will continue to source produce from other suppliers as they have been doing.

New London Hospital (NLH) does not serve produce from Taylor Farms.

Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) has not received any recalled products but has discarded all but locally sourced lettuce and leafy greens, out of an abundance of caution. SVMC will continue to use locally-sourced options.

We encourage you to review the article linked below for more information about Cyclosporiasis in our region.

Yesterday, Mt. Ascutney Hospital welcomed the University of Vermont's Pediatric Emergency Outreach Team for PediPalooza, a day of hands-on learning and collaboration focused on pediatric emergency care.

Through interactive skill stations and educational sessions, participants explored a variety of pediatric emergency care topics, including the ABCs of pediatric assessment, airway management, and child distraction techniques to help reduce anxiety and pain during medical procedures.

Thank you to the Outreach Team for sharing their expertise and helping support continued education for healthcare professionals caring for children in our community.
