Health care careers are already top of mind for some Bertie County Early College and Columbia High School students, as demonstrated by their participation in ECU Health Bertie Hospital’s Health Care Careers Boot Camp.

Six students took part in the four-day experience, designed to give them a behind-the-scenes look at what a career in health care can be. From Administration and Nursing to a variety of non-clinical departments, students fully immersed themselves in our facility. One student shared that she didn’t want to leave her rotation department because she enjoyed it so much.

Shavonna Boone, Community Health Improvement Coordinator, led the program which allows the students to not only learn about health care but also the challenges facing rural areas. We look forward to the possibility of seeing these students return in the future as valued team members.

Steamers opening night at Historic Hicks Field was filled with energy, excitement and community pride as ECU Health Bertie and Chowan hospitals were recognized during a special evening at the ballpark.

Team members, families and community members gathered to celebrate a night of memorable moments. The ceremonial first pitch was thrown by ECU Health team members Muffin Dickerson-Boyd and Latonya Cofield, who proudly represented their hospitals.

The evening also featured the Pledge of Allegiance led by hospital team members’ children and ECU Health Police Officer Tim Brabble performed the national anthem.

We are of the strong connection between our hospitals and the communities we serve—thank you to everyone who joined us to make opening night special!
