North Mississippi Health Services-South Marion, formerly known as Northwest Regional Health

Throughout its rich history, Northwest Regional Health, formerly Northwest Medical Center, has remained intertwined with the growing community it serves. The Winfield Hospital had its official opening in 1949 and since that time has been serving the primary healthcare needs of Marion, Fayette, Lamar, Walker and Winston counties. In this modern era, Northwest Medical Center has added many specialized services reaching beyond our primary service area into a regional service facility.

WINFIELD, Alabama—Cardiology Associates of North Mississippi is opening a new clinic in Winfield in July to serve area individuals with heart disease.

Dr. Dane Ballard will see patients at Cardiology Associates of North Mississippi-South Marion, located at 255 Medical Drive, Suite 4, Winfield, on the campus of North Mississippi Health Services-South Marion. To make an appointment, call (662) 620-6800.

Dr. Ballard, who has practiced with Cardiology Associates of North Mississippi since 2018, graduated magna cm laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Mississippi State University. He received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 2011. He completed cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowships at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2017.

Dr. Ballard is board certified in cardiology and is a member of the American College of Cardiology.

In addition to the new Winfield clinic, Cardiology Associates offers locations in Tupelo, Columbus, Corinth, Oxford and Starkville.

Alabama Hospital Association recently honored Cathy Mitchell with the 2025 Alabama Hospital Association (AlaHA) Grassroots Champion Award.

The AlaHA Grassroots Champion Award recognizes individuals who go above and beyond in their commitment to advocacy, investing in HOSPAC and championing issues that impact health care across Alabama.

Each year, AlaHA celebrates those who demonstrate exceptional engagement, and Cathy was selected for her outstanding advocacy efforts and her consistent presence at legislative events throughout the year.

“Cathy embodies the spirit of advocacy and the power of strong community relationships,” shares AlaHA leadership. “Her dedication ensures that the voices of our hospitals and the patients we serve are heard where it matters most”

South Marion Wound Center & Hyperbarics Recognized for Clinical Excellence in Patient Satisfaction and Wound Healing Rates. The Center achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for twelve consecutive months, including a patient satisfaction rate higher than 92 percent. This recognition is a testament to the exceptional care and dedication demonstrated by the Center's staff. South Marion Wound Center & Hyperbarics offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, and other chronic wounds. Advanced wound care modalities provided by our wound care experts include negative pressure wound therapy, total contact casting, biosynthetic dressings, and growth factor therapies. The Center also offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy, an advanced treatment that can help accelerate healing in select chronic wounds by increasing oxygen delivery to the affected tissue. Here is to another great year serving our patients and our community.

🌼Congratulations🌼 to our newest Daisy Award winner, Emily Williams.

Emily Williams is a 2018 RN graduate of Bevill State Community College. She began her nursing career as an LDRP and well baby nurse at DCH before transitioning to the Operating Room at Northwest Regional Health in 2021. After briefly working as a float nurse, she found her passion in Emergency Medicine, where she currently works primarily in the Emergency Department while still occasionally working in the OR and Med-Surg. Emily loves serving the same community hospital where she was born. In addition to bedside nursing, she serves as a clinical instructor for Bevill State Community College. She recently graduated from The University of Alabama with her MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner degree. Born and raised in the community, Emily currently lives in Winfield with her husband, Casey, of 14 years, their two teenage sons, 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 9 chickens. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, gardening, quilting, and cooking. Her professional interests include Women’s Health, Pediatrics, and Emergency Medicine. Congratulations again and thank you for your professionalism and dedication.

Day 3 of Health Care week, we celebrated with a picnic of hamburgers and hotdogs in our newly refurbished courtyard. A huge thank you to the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi for their generous donation to help in providing us such a beautiful space. We also want to thank our dietary staff and maintenance team for their hard work in getting things set up.

This week we celebrate Health Care Week here at North Mississippi Health Services - South Marion. Everyday of this special week, we honor the dedication of everyone who plays a role in providing the best care for our patients. From nurses to physicians, nutrition services, and housekeeping. Yesterday, thanks to our amazing dietary staff, we had a wonderful selection of omelets and a great yogurt bar with all the fixings for breakfast. Today, we had Lemmie’s Fresh Lemonade Stand on site.

We had a special visitor that hopped in with some goodies before the holiday weekend. The Easter Bunny stopped in to visit with patients and staff to spread some Easter joy and share a few goodies.
