It’s the final day of Orientation!

Today, we’re excited to introduce the last group of students joining the WUSOP Pharmily! It’s been so much fun getting to welcome the Class of 2030, and we can’t wait to see all that you’ll accomplish during your pharmacy school journey.

We’re also looking forward to celebrating with everyone at the White Coat Ceremony later today! A special milestone that marks the beginning of your journey as student pharmacists. A link to watch the White Coat Ceremony online will be posted later today. Stay tuned!

Welcome back to another Summer Happenings feature! ☀️ This week, we’re highlighting P4 student Juliana Sebastian as she reflects on her July APPE rotation in independent pharmacy and the unique experiences that helped shape her journey.

Over the month of July, I’ve strengthened my prescription verification skills, learned more about the financial and operational pieces of running an independent pharmacy, attended business development meetings, and worked on expanding clinical services through a collaborative practice agreement.

One of my favorite parts of this rotation has been seeing how much of independent pharmacy happens outside of the pharmacy itself. I’ve had the opportunity to connect with like-minded clinics serving patients in HIV care, substance use treatment, and free/charitable healthcare, and helped plan a community food giveaway and health fair focused on bringing resources, screenings, and support directly to the community.

Before pharmacy school, I never really thought to ask my dad about all the moving pieces behind his business. Getting to experience it firsthand has given me a greater appreciation for everything that goes into not only running an independent pharmacy, but building relationships, finding opportunities to serve, and becoming a meaningful part of the community.
