This past month, Wingate University Doctor of Physical Therapy, had the incredible opportunity to travel to the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota for a service and cultural immersion experience alongside Sinte Gleska University and the SGU Ranch team.

Throughout the week, our students worked with children during equine activities, led a community exercise class at the local high school, and provided injury screens for more than 25 individuals. We also spent time collaborating and brainstorming with the ranch team about future partnership opportunities, including logistics and planning for a potential “Rodeo for All” event.

In addition to service, we were honored to participate in a cultural learning day where we learned about the history of Rosebud, the inipi (sweat lodge), drumming, hand games, and other Lakota traditions and practices.

After the work was done, we explored the beauty of South Dakota through hikes along the Cowboy Trail, the Badlands, and Custer State Park, where we even found ourselves walking alongside bison.

This trip was filled with learning, connection, adventure, and meaningful conversations. We are incredibly grateful for the hospitality, relationships, and experiences shared throughout the week and are excited about future opportunities to continue growing this partnership.

Please join us in congratulating Associate Professor, Dr. Brett MacLennan, on being recognized as the Wingate University Graduate Faculty Member of the Year at last week’s graduation ceremony. This award honors a faculty member who demonstrates excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, leadership, and mentoring.

We also want to recognize one of our outstanding first-year DPT students on receiving the H.K. Helms Award for achieving a perfect 4.0 undergraduate GPA. This prestigious honor reflects exceptional academic achievement and dedication.

Congratulations on these well-deserved accomplishments — we are proud to celebrate both faculty and student excellence within the Wingate DPT family!

Over the last few days, we have been sharing highlights as our third-year DPT students wrap up a major milestone—their final week of didactic exams.

During the last six weeks they have been back on campus completing a mini-semester, before they return to the clinic for their last two rotations.

During this mini-semester, students had the opportunity to complete one of our electives and dive deeper into areas they are passionate about.

Students were able to choose from a range of elective experiences, including Advanced Manual Therapy, Advanced Concussion and Vestibular Management, Advanced Pelvic Health, Anatomy Faculty Preceptorship, and even a service trip to South Dakota.

Here is an action shot from our Advanced Concussion and Vestibular Management Course (sound on for full video experience is encouraged).

Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing highlights as our third-year DPT students wrap up a major milestone—their final week of didactic exams.

After spending the past six weeks back on campus completing a mini-semester, they are now preparing to head out for their final two clinical rotations before returning for graduation.

This is an exciting (and bittersweet) moment as they transition from the classroom to the clinic one last time. Stay tuned as we celebrate and take a look at what they have been up to on campus during the last six weeks.

Learning came to life this past weekend as our first-year DPT students hosted an open Human Anatomy Lab for the community.

After a semester of hard work, they had the opportunity to share their knowledge, answer questions, and help others better understand the complexity of the human body. A great example of learning, collaboration, and community connection in action.
