Statistics help us understand population trends. NHANES is a national dataset that shows the prevalence or the proportion of women diagnosed with osteoporosis during the age range of 50 to 59 yrs is growing. This is a critical time for women to request or demand a bone health evaluation. 1 in 3 women over age 50 sustain and osteoporosis related fracture in their lifetime - this is a statistic we’d like to reverse! https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11882656/

Of all the important things we recognize in May, Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention month tops my list! We petitioned our states to recognize this month to promote awareness. There is a public health knowledge gap around osteoporosis and related fractures. Osteoporosis and fractures are not a normal part of aging! Thanks for highlighting bone health and our supporting our mission.
