🏊 June is National Safety Month: Swimming Safety for Children

Did you know? Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1–4, and it remains one of the leading causes of unintentional injury death for children and teens.

Our Emergency Department wants to help keep families safe this summer with these important swimming safety tips:

✅ Never leave children unattended near water – not even for a moment.
✅ Designate a responsible adult as the “Water Watcher.”
✅ Enroll children in age-appropriate swim lessons.
✅ Use U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets when boating or around open water.
✅ Install barriers and self-latching gates around home pools.
✅ Teach children to stay away from drains and pool suction outlets.
✅ Learn CPR – it can save a life while waiting for emergency responders.
✅ Avoid distractions like phones while supervising swimmers.

A few simple precautions can make all the difference between a fun day in the water and a tragedy.
