August is Heat Stroke Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to learn how to recognize the signs of heat-related illness and protect yourself and your loved ones during the hottest days of the year.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency that occurs when the body can no longer cool itself effectively. Warning signs may include:
• A body temperature of 103°F or higher
• Hot, red, dry, or damp skin
• Confusion or slurred speech
• Rapid pulse
• Dizziness or loss of consciousness

Help prevent heat stroke by staying hydrated, wearing lightweight clothing, taking breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and limiting strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat.

If you suspect someone is experiencing heat stroke, call 911 immediately and move them to a cooler location while waiting for emergency help.
