Lorna, and her handler, our very own Chaplain Christine, visited on National Dog Day. Lorna is a 4-month-old black lab who is training to be a service dog. Chaplain Christine is a volunteer puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence (canine.org). Canine Companions is a national organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained service dogs at no charge to the recipient. Lorna will start coming to Sugar Loaf on a more regular basis as she continues in her training and residents will not only enjoy her company but will be able to help with her socialization and training. They will help Lorna learn good manners, calm greetings and how to be around lots of different people and equipment. Chaplain Christine will be raising Lorna until she is about 16 months old and then she will go to professional training. Lorna is looking forward to a lot of wonderful visits with residents.

Malissa has a true gift for connecting with others. Her coworkers praise her outstanding communication skills and her ability to support not only our residents but also her fellow team members. She puts thoughtful care into everything she does, is always willing to listen and lend a helping hand, and has made an incredible impact in Memory Care through her creativity, compassion, and innovative ideas that continue to enhance the lives of our residents.
