Induced After Death Communication—it sounds unconventional, which is why it hasn’t gained much traction in the therapy world. But we seem to be doing a better job lately combining spirituality with science, ya know? IADC was actually discovered during the early development of EMDR (now a well-known evidence-based therapy). Therapists using the new EMDR modality in the late 80s/early 90s noticed that occasionally clients would have spontaneous after death communication with the person they were grieving. IADC was curated by noticing what was different about those sessions, and fine tuning the process into something replicable. The spiritual “side effect” of EMDR was not welcome in the scientific discourse and has only recently made its way past academic gate keeping. And lucky me, I am now getting to witness this work in my office every week. As the clinician, it’s watching someone being bathed in love—a smile, a glow, an embodiment of peace. As the client, it’s finding relief from all the hang-ups of grief without months or years of therapy. I have worked in the aging and grief field for many years and this is the first modality I’ve known that offers compassionate relief that is measurable on day one.
