"You need to clone yourself, everyone needs you as their therapist. You just tell it like it is and it just makes sense!" This is one of the best compliments you can receive as a therapist.

I'm not sharing to toot my own horn, but to bring awareness to the kind of relationship everyone should have with their therapist. You should look forward to sessions, feel safe in sharing the good & bad without judgement, and feel like you're getting the support and challenges you need for your situation.

Finding a therapist you mesh with can sometimes be a process. I always make sure to tell potential new clients that they don't have to choose me because someone referred them or because they liked my bio. There has to be a comfort level that sometimes takes a couple sessions to truly feel out. Any good therapist will not take offense if you choose to find someone else, and should encourage you to do so. You need to feel safe, able to openly share the good AND bad, and receive constructive feedback that allows you to better understand yourself.

October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss remembrance day. Miscarriage and still birth are not talked about nearly enough, making those going through it feel incredibly alone. No one knows why it happens, but it is far more common than most people know. Having support of family, friends and those who have been there is so important to grieving and healing. And as with any loss or trauma, there is no right way to grieve and heal from this kind of loss. Everyone must find their own path through the grief, anger, sadness and eventually healing. Share you stories, remember your babies gone too soon, talk about it so it's not so lonely.

Whether it's from ADD, stress, depression or just family chaos, our minds can only take on so much before they just toss it all on the trampoline. First, give yourself grace. You're not superhuman, things get forgotten, pushed off, overlooked. Second, practice finishing every task you start before you move to the next. Third, help yourself by always putting things away/in the same place so you're not scrambling around looking for keys or wallet as you run out the door. And fourth, make lists: on your phone, on a note pad, post it notes (real and on your computer desk top). We all need reminders. Being a full time parent, employee, parental care giver, part time dance teacher, etc is exhausting and overwhelming at times. Help yourself by doing these little things.to save your sanity!!

This is 1000% true. Everyone experiences trauma in their own way, and what is traumatic to one person is no big deal to another. It's not a contest of who has been thru the most, or who's trauma is more noticeable. It's personal, and up to our brains and bodies to determine what our traumas are. Just like every medication doesn't yield the same results for every person, different types of therapy work for some and not others. Process how YOU need to, and in a way that allows you to heal and function how you need to.

Sometimes we surprise ourselves with what we're able to do. We're not going to handle every situation perfectly, but as long as it's productive, call that a win. Growth is not always a straight line, sometimes we make progress and sometimes we backslide a little.

Women are often mislabeled or overlooked for certain diagnoses just for the simple fact of being female. You know your body, symptoms that cause you stress and when things are off. Advocate for yourself, and don't allow medical professionals to brush you off!

We all have to decide our own boundaries and what we will put up with or accept from others.

Setting boundaries and expectations of people isn't an attack on them. It's not rude or disrespectful. It simply ensures that your own mental health is priority #1. Just because someone is family, does not give them the right to put you down, make you feel uncomfortable or use you to their benefit. The easiest way to begin setting boundaries is practicing saying "no" when you don't want to or don't have the time/energy to do something someone asks you to. "No, that won't fit in my schedule today." or "no, I am unable to make that work".

Unfortunately, we don't live in a society that allows much rest or focuses enough on self care. Don't wait for someone to give you permission to take a break because chances are if someone else can recognize the need for it, you've already had a breakdown of some type. Just like with our physical health, preventative measures can save some drastic things from happening!

°Schedule yourself alone time every week. Put it on the calendar just like a medical appt.

°Engage in physical activity at least 2-3 times a week (a walk, playing with the kids, stretching)

°revamp your night time routine to ensure you get good sleep

°turn up the music and sing and/or dance

°Seek out a therapist before things get "bad", because therapy can help just as much when things are going "ok".
