Here are some fun Biblical facts concerning infant’s genitalia….
🩵
I'm going to say something out loud that many won’t.
And before I do, I want to be clear: I have families I love and support who have chosen circumcision for their sons. I don't agree with that decision. But I do not love them any less, and I will not support them any less. This post is not about shame. It is about information that I believe every parent deserves to have.
One of the most common reasons I get for people to circumcise their sons is they believe their is biblical basis- when in fact there is quite the opposite.
Galatians 5:2 says: "Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all."
And Galatians 5:6: "Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love."
For New Testament Christians, this settles the spiritual question. The covenant of the flesh was fulfilled in Christ. Scripture does not require circumcision of your son.
Medicine doesn't either.
Routine infant circumcision in America came from 19th century theories long since abandoned and stuck here through cultural habit in a way it never did almost anywhere else in the developed world. Circumcision rates have now fallen below 50% in the US for the first time. The tide has turned.
And it is still surgery. Pain. Bleeding. Infection. An open wound on a newborn with an immature immune system. Infants have died from circumcision complications including hemorrhage and infection. For a cosmetic procedure to remove healthy functional tissue on a non-consenting baby, no risk is insignificant. Imagine consenting to an unnecessary surgery on your healthy baby boy and losing him.
Let's talk about what the fo****in actually is.
It is not a mistake. It is not extra skin God forgot to account for. The fo****in is highly innervated, specialized tissue containing thousands of nerve endings. It protects the g***s, keeps it naturally moisturized, and plays a significant role in sexual function and sensation. Removing it is not a neutral act.
Many circumcised men live with effects they don't even realize are connected. Tight or painful erections due to insufficient remaining skin. Reduced sensitivity over time as the unprotected g***s becomes desensitized. These aren't rare complications. They are common, underreported, and rarely discussed.
As for the locker room concern: intact is now the majority in America. Your son will not look different. But even if he did, permanent surgery on a non-consenting newborn to preemptively manage an imaginary future scenario deserves more than a moment's thought.
Your son was born whole. He was born as God intended. Intact is the default.
Scripture does not require this. Medicine does not require this. Culture is shifting.
You are free to leave him exactly as God made him.
