If you’re a reader, but you haven’t attended a Moonrise Book Club yet, what are you waiting for??

We have so so much fun at book club and it’s so low pressure — read one of our picks, both of them, or neither of them! Come anyway! Just bring whatever book you’re reading at the time.

The date and time for September’s Book Club meet up is September 19th at 10a.

Our non-fiction pick is Everything is Everything Is Tuberculosis by John Green.
Our fiction pick is Swordheart by T. Kingfisher.

Remember, Book Club is open to anyone whether or not you’re a Moonrise client and if you have an infant, a “baby-in-arms” they are welcome too!

Our book club will run a bit like a silent book club. some time for chatting, where you can introduce yourself, tell folks about what you’re reading, and catch up with folks who are maybe reading the same thing you are. Then we’ll have 45-60 minutes of quiet reading and then some more time to wrap up share about any exciting updates with what you just read, being mindful for spoilers and the other folks who are reading what you’re reading.

It would be so helpful to us if you register for book club via the link below, but it’s not a requirement. Your registration just helps us to know how many folks to expect.

It’s been nearly two years since we moved into this building on Denning. This photo was taken the day Emily saw the office all put together after a small bit of remodeling and a lot of decorating. It was the culmination of years of dreaming together so as you can imagine it was a very emotional day.

Thank you to everyone who has invited us into their care and supported our mission. We are so proud of all the work we’ve done in the last two years, and hope to continue serving Central Florida families for a long time coming.

xoxo,
Emily & Tamara

Being in community together is how this work gets done. We were so honored and delighted (downright giddy, actually) to have Leila, owner of in Louisiana, and long time friend visit Moonrise today.

Leila was one of Emily’s birth assistants at the beginning of Emily’s career. Before moving to Louisiana, she was such a special part of Central Florida’s doula landscape, and one of Tamara’s first friends here.

Not only was it so special and comforting to share and everything we’ve been up to with her, getting to visit with this powerhouse midwife was so empowering. Leila is changing the world with her passion for birth and advocacy for the rights of pregnant folks in her community.

Thank you, Leila, for visiting (we miss you already) and for what you’re doing to change the landscape of birth wherever you go.

We’re so excited to get this book club started. It’s open to anyone whether or not you’re a Moonrise client. The anticipated plan/format is as follows.

Each month will consist of three options for reading:
📚A non-fiction. Think memoir, birthy book, or justice oriented.
📚A cozy, light hearted fiction. Think cozy fantasy, or contemporary rom-com.
📚And a more “serious” fiction option. Think lit fic, or epic fantasy.
If none of the books sound good, or if you’re a mood reader, just bring whatever book you’re moving through.

The actual meetings will run a bit like a silent book club. 15 minutes of chatting, where you can introduce yourself, tell folks about what you’re reading, and catch up with folks who are maybe reading the same thing you are. Then we’ll have 45-60 minutes of quiet reading and then 15 minutes to wrap up share about any exciting updates with what you just read, being mindful for spoilers and the other folks who are reading what you’re reading.

Hey folks, Tamara here at the end of International Day of the Midwife. We are so lucky to have Emily at the helm of our practice. To watch her attend folks in their labors is to watch someone who trusts her clients and who trusts birth.

If you’ve been able to be at her side while she’s holding space for her clients you know how beautiful and powerful she is. She is a true witness to birth.

But she’s not the only midwife that has attended Moonrise clients. We have been so so blessed to have other midwives, and student midwives, and student midwives who have become licensed midwives, support the families who have come through our (figurative and literal) doors.

Thank you to all of the midwives who have held Moonrise clients so well. It’s an honor to know and to have worked alongside of you.

this is what your three hour glucose test could look like with midwifery care. you, sitting on a comfy couch, working on your computer, while your midwife reads a book next to you. chatting and giggling about whatever comes up.

you don’t have to sit in a sterile waiting room, on an uncomfortable chair, surrounded by strangers for hours on end.

curious about midwifery care? comment ‘curious’ and i’ll send you the link for the contact for, or just head to the link in our bio to fill it out.
