Our residents recently enjoyed an incredible tour of the historic Frederick DeBary home, stepping back in time to experience Old Florida. Built in 1871 as a winter retreat for a European w**e merchant, this estate was once a hub for hospitality, hunting, and entertaining along the St. Johns River.

It was fascinating to see how beautifully the home’s history has been preserved. We admired the original architecture, spacious verandas, tall windows, and even the antique call system and luggage elevator! The home tells a vivid story of life over 150 years ago through its period details and artifacts. Beyond the 8,000-square-foot house, we learned about the estate’s evolution—from a 6,000-acre property involved in orange growing and commercial steamboating to the preserved site we see today. Between the magnificent architecture and the majestic oak trees draped in Spanish moss, there was so much to appreciate. We are so grateful to DeBary Hall for such a memorable look into our local history!

We finished our wonderful day with a delicious lunch at Swamp House Riverfront Grill. The food and the beautiful riverside setting were the perfect conclusion to our outing. We had such a great time that we are already looking forward to returning for a St. Johns River Eco Tour and another fantastic meal!

Today, we have so much to celebrate at The Savoy! ❤️

First, we want to give a huge and heartfelt thank you to Chef Tim for always being there for us. Tim is our incredibly dedicated and driven regional chef who has never let us down. No matter what is needed, he continues to show up, work hard, and give his best to our residents and our community. We are so grateful for everything you have done for us, Chef Tim!

We are also very excited to welcome Chef Oscar to The Savoy! Chef Oscar brings an amazing 9 years of experience with Hawthorn and is ready to get into the kitchen and make our residents happy. We are looking forward to this new chapter and all the wonderful meals ahead. Welcome to The Savoy, Chef Oscar!

And last, but certainly not least, congratulations to Jan on 7 years and Rich on 6 years with Hawthorn! Jan and Rich are truly selfless managers who consistently put the needs of our residents and team at the forefront. Leadership isn’t always easy, but they continue to lead with integrity, compassion, and a genuine commitment to the people around them.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated people helping make The Savoy the community it is. Please join us in thanking Chef Tim, welcoming Chef Oscar, and congratulating Jan and Rich on these wonderful milestones! ❤️

After supper, the fun was in full swing! A huge thank you to Tony for keeping everyone entertained and bringing such great energy to the evening! Thank you to FirstLight for treating everyone to refreshing snow cones, and a very special thank you to Officer Genao and K-9 Lando with the WSPD for joining us for a fantastic meet & greet! Lando was definitely a crowd favorite, and we loved having the opportunity for our residents and families to meet this incredible team. From music and snow cones to games, laughs, and a very special four-legged guest, Family Fun Night was one to remember! ❤️

We had such a wonderful day exploring the Orange County Regional History Center! The museum was incredibly well organized and thoughtfully curated, taking us through Central Florida’s fascinating history from its early communities and industries to the people and events that helped shape the area we know today. We learned so much and really enjoyed seeing all of the artifacts, photographs, and exhibits along the way! Afterward, we headed to The Harp & Celt for lunch a cozy Irish pub in downtown Orlando with plenty of charm and delicious traditional fare. Great food, great history, and a day full of discoveries!

We had such a wonderful day exploring Sanford! Our first stop was Gallery on First, where residents enjoyed browsing the beautiful and unique artwork. We then headed to Hollerbach’s German Restaurant & Market for a delicious lunch and some time to explore the market

After lunch, we took a relaxing drive through Historic Sanford before making one last (and very important!) stop at Dairy Queen for a sweet treat on the way home. We came for the art, stayed for the German food, and somehow ended up at Dairy Queen. Not a bad day!

Our Young at Art class got back to the basics with an instructor led lesson in sketching and shading! We started with simple shapes and learned how a little technique, patience and practice can transform into something we’re proud of. Art is a wonderful activity for the senior brain, encouraging creativity, concentration, hand-eye coordination and problem solving. It also gives us an opportunity to quiet the outside noise, let go of distractions and focus completely on one task for a while. Everyone had so much fun and the best part was seeing how proud our artists were of their finished work. Some were even surprised by just how talented they are! We’re excited to keep building our skills in Young at Art and see just how good we can get!

What a wonderful day exploring Lakeridge Winery in Clermont! We learned that Florida has one of the oldest w**e industries in the country; grape growing and w**emaking began here long before California became famous for its vineyards. Our tour taught us all about Florida's unique muscadine grapes and the w**emaking process, and of course we enjoyed tasting a variety of delicious w**es along the way!

To top off the day we stopped at Oakwood Smokehouse, where everyone enjoyed a hearty Southern style meal with great barbecue and classic comfort food. It was a fun day of learning and great flavors!
