At Right at Home, we believe every older adult deserves to age with dignity, safety, and comfort. While many seniors can continue living at home with the right support, there may come a time when their needs extend beyond what home care alone can provide.

Recognizing those changes is an important step in helping your loved one receive the care they deserve. ✨

For many families, firearm safety becomes an important topic as a loved one's cognitive abilities change. While age itself is not the determining factor, signs of dementia, confusion, or declining judgment may indicate it's time to consider restricting access for everyone's safety. 💡

For the past decade, 28-year-old Rishi Sharma has dedicated his life to preserving the stories of World War II veterans before they are lost to history. Through his nonprofit project, Remember WWII, he has traveled across the country conducting more than 3,000 interviews with veterans, including 100-year-old Marine Nils Mockler, who fought at Iwo Jima. Funded by donations, Sharma records hours of conversations and shares them with veterans' families, ensuring their experiences are remembered for future generations.

With the number of surviving WWII veterans declining rapidly—from about 700,000 a decade ago to roughly 30,000 today—Sharma believes their stories represent not only important historical accounts but also a source of wisdom, sacrifice, and moral leadership that has helped shape the nation.

Fall prevention begins in the places we use most. In the kitchen, staying organized, keeping floors dry, and avoiding the need to climb or stretch for items can go a long way toward creating a safer environment.

Choc is a 101-year-old Choctaw Indian and WWII veteran who served as a tank commander in pivotal battles like the Battle of the Bulge. He resides in an independent living facility and has been under the compassionate care of his Right at Home Northwest Oklahoma City caregiver, Susan Foster, since 2021. After the passing of his wife, Billie, in 2023, Choc embraced life with renewed energy. In December 2024, with Susan's unwavering support, Choc traveled to Belgium for the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. Their journey included parades, meetings with dignitaries, and visits to historical sites. Choc expressed his gratitude, saying, “My trip to Belgium would not have happened without the help from Susan. She was my constant caregiver and companion. If I looked over my shoulder, she was there to help and make sure I was not overdoing it.”

Susan reflected on the experience, “If it weren’t for Choc, I would never have been able to experience this trip of a lifetime. It is a privilege to care for him and listen to his amazing life stories." Their journey was truly unforgettable, from dining with the King and Queen of Belgium to visiting the Bastogne Barracks War Museum, where Choc autographed a tank. Choc’s legacy is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for our freedom, and it is an honor for Right at Home to be part of his incredible journey. Thank you, Susan, for embodying the Right at Home mission and making a profound difference in Choc’s life. 💙
