It’s a job that demands constant learning, policies, procedures, and knowing countless locations, businesses, and landmarks like the back of their hand. Every detail matters when seconds count.
In a single shift, they can go from handling someone’s worst moment to helping bring new life into the world over the phone. They hear the panic, the fear, the heartbreak, the screams of loved ones discovering loss. Those sounds don’t just fade when the call ends, they stay with them forever.
Beyond the calls, there’s another weight they carry, knowing that the families of their fellow responders are depending on them too. Every dispatch, every piece of information we give, helps ensure that someone’s partner, parent, or child makes it home safely at the end of their shift.
