Gone, but not forgotten!

Grand Rapids Volunteer Fire Department. Wisconsin Rapids, WI
Firefighter Huiras became ill after suffering a brain aneurysm on July 31, 2022, after responding to a fire involving multiple structures in Nekoosa, then responded to a motor vehicle crash. He was transported to the hospital, where he remained until his death on August 3, 2022. Firefighter Huiras was also a member of the Grand Rapids Auxiliary Police Department.

Here’s the latest addition to the fleet! This is Brush 2! This vehicle replaces a 2003 F-250 which has served us til this past month. This vehicle is a 2026 Chevrolet HD 3500 1 ton crew cab. It is equipped with a Darley Fast Attack skid unit featuring a Darley pump and Honda power plant. It holds 250 gallons of water and has foam capability. It’s also equipped with LED emergency lighting and a new dual band radio.

This vehicle was purchased entirely with 2% dues from the state and fundraising from our Brat Fry’s, Raffles and car cruises!! NO budget money from the town’s annual budget was used to purchase this vehicle!!

We wrap up our annual raffle tomorrow night! Drawing is at The Pour House located at 3140 Lake Avenue, Wisconsin Rapids at 6pm. We should be setup by 5pm and will sell tickets until we draw at 6pm. See you there!

Thank you to AC Kevin Grosskreutz, FF Mike Smazal, EMR Denise LaMarche and Captain Mike “Ski” Szwajkowski for donating their time today to perform the weekly lawn and building maintenance for our week at the Wisconsin Fire & EMS Memorial! Honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
And we just beat the rain!
