👣 Let's talk about bunions — because I see them every single day in my clinic, and there are a lot of myths out there.

A bunion (hallux valgus) isn't just a bump. It's a structural deformity of the big toe joint — the bone itself drifts out of alignment over time. And no, tight shoes didn't cause it (though they definitely make it worse). Genetics play a much bigger role than most people realize.

Here's what I want my patients to know:

✅ Early treatment matters. Bunions are progressive — they don't get better on their own. Catching them early means more conservative options like orthotics, wider footwear, and other strategies can actually help.

✅ Pain isn't required for it to be serious. Some of the worst bunions I see belong to patients who've "just lived with it" for years.

✅ Surgery has come a long way. Modern bunion correction (including minimally invasive techniques) has shorter recovery times and better outcomes than the procedures of 10–20 years ago.

✅ Not every bunion needs surgery. We exhaust non-surgical options first. My goal is always to get you back to the activities you love — with the least intervention possible.
