There is a new weight loss drug that was just FDA approved called Foundayo (Orforglipron). It is in pill form, not injectable. It starts at 0.8 mg per day and is incrementally increased each month to a max dose of 17.2 mg daily.
///
What makes this medication unique compared to other GLP-1 weight loss drugs is that it is a "non-peptide" so it isn't broken down in the body the same way as Tirzepatide (Zepbound) and Wegovy (Semaglutide). It is metabolized in the liver (CYP3A4). In short, this has the potential to interact with other medications, making some more potent, and others less potent.
///
Natural does NOT mean safe. Herbs and supplements also have the potential to impact the liver in this manner, interacting with this and other medications (St Johns Wort and grapefruit are examples)
///
If you are prescribed this medication, make sure you are aware that your clinician has reviewed any other medications you are taking, checking for interactions.
