Completed 2 days of the SOS Approach to Feeding Conference and feeling invigorated as I complete this first step in becoming a SOS certified feeding therapist. I'm looking forward to what the next 2 days will offer. This is by far the best training I have had in my career and I'm grateful that I can do it from home.

When you're a Speech Language Pathologist you happily come to sessions as T-Rex.

Why is Parasaurolophus my favorite? Because he has a crest on his head that was believed to be used for sound production, a resonating chamber. Speech science teaches us SLPs about resonance in the pharynx, oral and nasal cavities. But I only learned about resonance in my favorite dinosaur because I was taught about it by one of my speech kiddos 🥰

Why are dinosaurs so important to speech? Because many children love them and will talk about them all day long if you let them. Their names are also packed with wonderful speech sounds! Motivation is critical to learning and dinosaurs are very motivating 🦖🦕

Update: I've been asked a lot in recent weeks when I'm leaving my current job at Early Intervention and I just want to let folks know that I'm not. I love the infant and toddler kiddos and their families. They have been my passion for many years. If I do ever leave, I anticipate that to be many years away.

I have started getting everything in order to begin the practice very part-time in September. I have a name (to be unveiled soon), a web domain and a business entity reservation. I will be working on getting my LLC set up and applying for credentialing with local insurance companies over the next week so that everything will be processed in time.

In addition, I'm happy to be taking the SOS Approach to Feeding course in September to prepare for developing groups both for the practice and hopefully EI. This is something I have always wanted to do and now it's going to happen.

Please feel free to share my information if you know anyone who may be interested in services beginning in the Fall.

My good friend Susan and her son Nick will be partnering with me. Nick, who has been painting for therapy, will be helping to create my logo and Susan will be working with me to develop some speech/language focused play groups (a much needed service in my community). To honor my partnership with Susan and Nick and illustrate just how I'm feeling about this project, I am posting a video of me and Nick that he shot many years ago right around the time I became a speech/language pathologist.
