Your eyes are exposed to harmful UV rays every time you're outdoors, even on cloudy days. Over time, UV exposure can increase your risk of cataracts, certain eye cancers and damage to the surface of the eye. Protecting your vision is as important as protecting your skin.

Don't become part of these alarming statistics. Protect yourself and your children from fireworks this holiday season. While sparklers may seem like harmless fun, they can burn at temperatures exceeding 2,000°F, hot enough to melt metal. Every year, sparklers alone are responsible for approximately 1,400 eye injuries, many involving children. Firework-related eye injuries can cause burns, corneal abrasions, retinal damage and even permanent vision loss. This holiday, keep a safe distance from fireworks, supervise children closely and remember that protecting your vision and your family's safety should always be part of the celebration.

How does cataract surgery work?

Cataract surgery is one of the most common and successful procedures performed today. During surgery, the eye's cloudy natural lens (the cataract) is gently removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL). This helps restore clearer, brighter vision and can often reduce dependence on glasses.
