Today I had a follow up appointment with my P*P as a form of self-care.
It is important to know that self-care is not only emotional and spiritual, it is physical too.
Taking care of your body is part of taking care of your life.
Many women delay doctor’s appointments. You may push through pain, ignore symptoms, or tell yourself you will go later. But your body keeps the score.
Let’s look at what many women are facing:
• Fibromyalgia affects about 4 million adults in the U.S., with women making up the majority. It is often linked to chronic pain, fatigue, and increased anxiety and depression.
• Fibroids impact up to 70 to 80 percent of women by age 50. They can cause heavy bleeding, pain, and emotional distress.
• Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women of reproductive age. It is commonly associated with chronic pelvic pain, infertility concerns, and higher rates of anxiety and depression.
• PCOS affects about 1 in 10 women. It is connected to hormonal imbalance, weight challenges, and increased risk for anxiety and mood disorders.
• Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women, and early detection matters. Cancer diagnoses and treatment often come with emotional strain, fear, and depressive symptoms.
There is a clear connection between physical health and mental health.
When your body is under stress, your mind feels it.
When pain goes untreated, your emotions carry it.
When health concerns are ignored, anxiety often increases.
Self-care means you pay attention.
Ask yourself:
• What symptoms have I been ignoring?
• When was my last check-up?
• Am I taking my body seriously or putting it last?
Taking care of your health is not optional. It is necessary.
Make the appointment.
Follow up on the concern.
Advocate for your body.
This is self-care.
If you are working to care for your whole self mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically, I can support you in building a rhythm that works for your life.
