An incredible evening spent building beds for kids in need with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Every child deserves a bed to call their own, and getting to be part of that felt so good. My husband even jumped in and helped build (after driving us there!) š¤ Loved every minute ā sawdust in my hair and all.
This build was extra special because it connected to another cause close to my heart ā YMSL (Young Men's Service League) Seattle. My son and I are both part of this incredible mother-son philanthropic organization. YMSL pairs moms and sons in service to the community, and nights like this one are exactly why: watching our boys roll up their sleeves and understand that giving back isn't optional, it's a way of life.
A little history on Sleep in Heavenly Peace: founded in 2012 by Luke Mickelson, after he learned that kids in his own town were sleeping on the floor. What started with one family has grown into a charity spanning 47 states and over 300 chapters across four countries by the end of 2024. An estimated 2-3% of children nationwide don't have a bed of their own and this organization has received more than one million bed applications since it started, delivering over 350,000 beds to date.
The mission says it all: NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN. šļøš
Grateful for organizations like YMSL that create these moments ā where service becomes a family tradition, not just a checkbox.
