Advancing patient safety means designing connections that help prevent wrong-route medication administration.

The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) provides resources supporting the changeover from Luer connectors to ISO 80369-6 compliant NRFit® connectors for neuraxial and other neural applications.

The ISO 80369 series was developed so connectors intended for different clinical applications cannot connect with one another—helping reduce the risk of potentially serious tubing misconnections.

Advances in neuraxial care continue to support safer, more effective, and more individualized approaches to pain management.

A 2026 review, “Modern neuraxial labor analgesia: techniques, pharmacologic strategies, and maternal–fetal outcomes,” explores current approaches to epidural analgesia, combined spinal–epidural and dural puncture epidural techniques, medication strategies, and maternal and neonatal outcomes. The review also highlights the importance of continued attention to safety, clinical assessment, and multidisciplinary communication in neuraxial practice.
