Has anyone ever told you your test came back negative β so whatever you're feeling can't be what you think it is?
Episode 77 of Made to Be Whole is one Krista feels pretty strongly about. She's been reading Everything Is Tuberculosis by John Green, and the parallels between TB's history and what people with Lyme and Bartonella experience today are β π’ππππππππ‘ππππ. .
The standard test for Lyme misses up to half of cases, especially early on. Sound familiar? Same problem with TB testing in under-resourced settings. The technology to do better has been available. It just hasn't been prioritized.
And then there's this: a key antibiotic used in TB treatment has been dosed the same way since the 1960s. Not because that's the most effective dose. Because it was the cheapest dose that worked when the drug was expensive to produce. Costs have dropped. The standard hasn't changed.
Krista also gets into what actually triggers a latent infection to flare β and the list is longer than most people expect. Immunosuppressive medications, steroids, surgery, pregnancy, stress, viral infections like Epstein-Barr. If you've had an immunosuppressive event before your symptoms showed up, that's worth paying attention to.
You didn't choose this. And the system's failure to find you is not evidence that you don't exist.
