Rock bottom may get the headlines, but the reality is that many people struggling with alcohol or substance use disorders still show up.

For work.
For their families.
For the gym.
For their responsibilities.

Addiction lies. It tells us that if the bills are paid, we're meeting our obligations, and we make it to our kid's piano recital, then everything must be fine.

But if you're finding it difficult to go a day or a week without drinking, or if one or two drinks regularly turns into five or six, it may be time to have a conversation.

Addiction doesn't always look the way people expect it to. You don't have to lose everything before asking for help.

Yesterday, we said farewell to our very own Richard Berry as he begins a well-earned retirement after 15 years of service to AdCare.

Over the years, Richard wore many hats, starting in transportation before moving into crisis counseling, admissions, and finally case management. No matter the role, he brought the same steady compassion, keen insight, and open heart to every person he encountered.

Richard had a way of reminding us what matters most: never lose sight of what the patient is going through. That lesson — simple, human, and deeply important — is one we carry forward because of him.

Happy trails, Richard. We hope your retirement is filled with peace, joy, laughter, and all the things you love most. You will be deeply missed. ❤️

All gave some. Some gave all.

Today we remember the men and women of the Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and we honor the families they left behind.

May their courage and sacrifice live on in every loved one and fellow service member who carries them forward. ❤️

Maybe this post found you at the right time.

You don’t have to wait until you lose everything.
You don’t have to prove you’re struggling “enough.”
And you don’t have to do this alone.

Maybe a part of you is quietly wondering what it would feel like to finally get help.

👉 That part of you matters.

We're here. Right now. No judgment. No pressure.

Want a quick way to support your recovery and feel really good?

👉 Get moving!

Studies show that even 15 minutes a day of purposeful movement can improve cardiovascular health, boost your mood, and crush stress.

The best part? You don't need a gym, equipment, or a ton of time.

Here are six easy moves you can do anywhere, anytime:

🪑 Chair squats. Stand in front of a sturdy chair, lower yourself until you just touch the seat, then push back up.

🍳 Counter push-ups. Hands on a countertop, angle in, and push. Easy on the joints and great for your chest and arms.

🦵 Leg overs. Lie on your back, shoulders flat, and slowly drop your knees side to side. Gentle on your back, strong on your core.

🚪 Wall sit. Back against the wall, sink down to 90 degrees and hold. Builds leg strength and mental toughness at the same time.

🫀March in place. Knees up, arms pumping. Get that heart rate up right where you stand, no excuses needed.

👟 Calf raises. Hold a chair for balance and rise up on your toes. Low-impact, easy to sneak in anywhere, and great for circulation.

💪 Save this post for your next workout, and share it with someone who needs a little push today!

Maybe you've thought about it.
I'm too old for this. What's the point? This is just who I am now.

We hear that a lot. And we understand why it feels that way.

But here's what we also know: people find recovery in their 50s, their 60s, their 70s and beyond. It happens every day.

And the quality of life on the other side -- more time, more presence, more of yourself back -- is worth it at any age!

You're not too old.
You're not too far gone.
Recovery doesn't have an age limit.
And you don't have to figure this out alone. AdCare accepts Medicare, so the help you need is more in reach than you think.

DM us or call any time. We're here.

One of the hardest things about addiction is that most people know what it’s taking from them long before they ever ask for help.

Not all at once.
Usually slowly.

Energy.
Trust.
Peace.
Time.
Relationships.
The version of themselves they used to recognize.

And still, taking that first step toward recovery can feel terrifying.

Because what if it’s too hard?
What if you fail?
What if you can’t imagine life without the thing that’s hurting you?

A lot of people stay stuck there for a long time.

But recovery is not losing everything people think it is.

For many people, it’s the first time they start getting parts of themselves back.

Their clarity.
Their relationships.
Their health.
Their ability to feel present again.
Their future.

If this post hits something real for you, maybe that matters more than you think. 🤍

A Telly Award for Social Impact. We'll take it. 🏆

"Addiction Talk," the podcast and talk show from our parent organization AAC, has won a Bronze Telly for an episode featuring Beth McDonough — a former TV crime reporter who opened up about her own experience with addiction and recovery.

What makes this award meaningful isn't the hardware. It's what it represents: real stories, told honestly, reaching people who need to hear them.

Proud to be part of an organization doing this work. Congratulations, Addiction Talk. 🎙️
