Genesis Club House, Inc. Genesis Club is work-focused community of hope and dignity where mental health recovery is possible.

Genesis Club opened its doors on September 15, 1988 with 25 members. Twelve months prior, a committed and passionate Board of Directors decided that the city of Worcester should have a free-standing Clubhouse community. This decision was made after a visit to Fountain House in New York City, the first clubhouse model in the country. From a modest beginning, Genesis Club has developed a highly recognized Accredited Clubhouse with Clubhouse International that is an Evidenced Based Practice with the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Genesis Club offers vocational training, education, employment, housing, wellness and social supports to over 550 members each year. Most importantly, Genesis Club offers a community of hope and dignity where recovery is possible. Genesis Club is one of twelve training centers of Clubhouse International. Since that time, the Genesis International Training Center has trained over 300 Clubhouses, 2000 colleagues from 35 states and 16 countries. Genesis Club strives to be a leading community partner with Worcester employers, landlords, families, colleges/universities and health care providers.

🍅🧄 Growing together, one season at a time! 🌱
This week, our Kitchen Unit staff and members made their final trip of the season to the community garden! They harvested the last of the summer tomatoes and planted garlic bulbs for next year’s growing season.
We’re grateful for our partnership with the Regional Environmental Council (REC), a wonderful community organization that brings people together to fight food insecurity through sustainable practices. With four plots and two garden beds, we’re proud to be the only community organization with a space in the garden—and we love sharing the fruits (and vegetables!) of our labor with the Clubhouse at lunchtime. ❤️
Dave shared, “Gardening is always nice to do with people, get out there, and get your hands dirty!”
Here’s to growing fresh food, building connections, and making memories together. 🌿

🎉 Member Milestone Monday: Celebrating Rich & Sandra! 🎉

👏 Building confidence, gaining skills, and taking steps toward meaningful employment!

Rich and Sandra have been working hard toward their employment goals, and we're excited to celebrate their success! Through Genesis Club's Transitional Employment (TE) Program, members can gain valuable work experience, build confidence, and establish routines that support their journey toward long-term employment. Our part-time TE positions provide a supportive steppingstone toward lasting part-time or full-time employment.

Throughout the lunch period, they help keep the dining area clean, welcoming, and ready for students and staff. Their work makes a difference every day! A heartfelt thank-you to our community partners, including WPI Chartwells, for helping make these opportunities possible!

💙 At Genesis Club, we're not just building job skills. We're building confidence, creating opportunities, and changing lives!

❤️ A Night of Community and Hope! ❤️
Last night, a full house of longtime friends, new friends, dedicated supporters, and community partners came together for Genesis Club’s annual Ambassadors’ Dinner—an inspiring evening celebrating the power of the Clubhouse model in mental health recovery.

Over a wonderful dinner, we heard moving stories from speakers who shared their personal experiences navigating mental health challenges and finding hope, connection, and purpose through the Clubhouse community. Their stories reminded us that recovery is about more than managing psychiatric symptoms. It’s about having a place where you’re seen and valued, and where you can rebuild your skills and create new dreams and goals.

As Executive Director Lisa Brennan shared, “We want to see the day when ‘Clubhouse’ is prescribed right alongside an antidepressant. Because connection matters, and community heals.”

To everyone who joined us, shared your story, helped bring the evening to life, and continues to believe in the mission of Genesis Club: thank you!

Nearly eight years of waiting. One very big milestone. A place to call his own. 🏡
Join us in celebrating José’s very first apartment! He worked hard to find a home in Worcester that met his needs, including ADA accessibility—and now, it’s finally happening.

José is excited, a little nervous, and feeling more confident as he prepares for this next chapter. Having his own place is a big step toward the independence he’s been working toward.

With his family cheering him on and the entire Genesis Club community in his corner, José has plenty of support as he makes himself at home.
Congratulations, José! 💙

Amazing things happen when Clubhouses come together to share ideas, learn from one another, and strengthen their communities for young adults! 💙

This past week, Genesis Club had the pleasure of welcoming colleagues from seven Clubhouses across the country for our Engaging Young Adults Training!
We were thrilled to host colleagues from Wellspring Clubhouse (Sellersville, PA), The Academy at Glengary (Sarasota, FL), B’More Clubhouse (Baltimore, MD), Club Nova (Carrboro, NC), Threshold Clubhouse (Durham, NC), The Academy at Bradenton (Bradenton, FL), and Evergreen Clubhouse (Spokane, WA).

Over four days, participants learned directly from young adult members and staff, exchanged ideas, explored best practices, and discovered new ways to help young adults feel connected, find their voices, and experience the power of belonging in their Clubhouse communities.

And, of course, the week wasn’t all work and no play! We kicked things off with pizza, karaoke, and plenty of opportunities to connect and build new friendships. 🎤🍕

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Genesis Club honors the histories, cultures, and ongoing contributions of Native American peoples.

Here in Worcester, our Clubhouse stands on the ancestral lands of the Nipmuc people. We recognize the Nipmuc, Tatnuk, Pakachoag, and Tataesset communities whose stewardship of the land and networks of travel and trade helped shape this region.

Today is an invitation to listen, learn, and celebrate Indigenous communities—past and present.

For years, social anxiety kept Mel isolated. After being diagnosed with agoraphobia, even leaving the house felt impossible. Through determination and courage, she slowly rebuilt her confidence, one step at a time, reclaiming her independence and rediscovering herself.

When Mel found Genesis Club, she found something she had been missing: a place where she truly belonged. The acceptance, inclusion, and sense of accomplishment she experienced here helped her realize she had taken her life back.

Today, Mel is a vital part of our community—a member of the Young Adult Committee, an advocate for others living with social anxiety, and one of the many reasons our Clubhouse feels like home. She knows that no matter what kind of day she's having, she will be welcomed, valued, and accepted.

Because belonging isn't about being perfect. It's about being seen, supported, and knowing you have a place where you matter.

After a successful 45-year career in government and corporate America, Jim thought retirement would be the beginning of a new chapter. Instead, he found himself struggling with the loss of something he hadn't realized was so important: a sense of purpose, connection, and belonging. The transition was overwhelming, and a serious mental health crisis led to a hospital stay.

Seven months ago, Jim found Genesis Clubhouse, and his life began to change. At Genesis, he discovered more than a place to go. He found a community where he feels safe, accepted, needed, and valued. Most importantly, he found a place where he belongs.

“Genesis literally saved my life. Today, I have a community where I belong, people who care about me, and a renewed sense of purpose.”

Today, Jim is passionate about sharing his story and helping others discover the life-changing power of the Clubhouse model. His mission is simple: to make sure others who are struggling know that they don't have to face life's challenges alone, and that there is a place where they, too, can belong.

When Lisa joined Genesis Club in 2015, she felt like she didn’t belong anywhere. Since her diagnosis, she felt she could no longer be a good mother or daughter, or a useful person in her community.

But at Genesis Club, she discovered something powerful: she could contribute meaningfully again.

Lisa worked in the Kitchen Unit, planning, preparing and serving lunches alongside other members and staff. Through the work, she found purpose, connection, confidence, and a sense of belonging. She began doing things she once thought she would never do again.

“Working at Genesis Club made me feel like a person again.”

Today, Lisa is the woman she’s always wanted to be. She is grateful for the people who came into her life, believed in her, and helped her realize that she could do the things she never thought she could do while living with mental health challenges.

This is what belonging looks like. This is what a Clubhouse community makes possible!
