Balanced Living Functional Medicine, LLC Health information from a functional medicine doctor

I think so many women are exhausted not just from life…

…but from trying to keep up with all the health information coming at them every day.

The podcasts.
The supplements.
The hormone advice.
The “healthy swaps.”
The endless wellness rules.

At some point, even trying to get healthy starts to feel overwhelming.

I know this because I lived it too.

There was a season where I thought healing meant:
more information,
more optimization,
more effort.

But my body wasn’t asking for more.

It was asking for:
less noise
less pressure
and more simplicity 💛

More nourishment.
More steadiness.
More moments where my nervous system could finally exhale.

And honestly?

That’s when things finally started to change.

Sometimes healing begins not by adding more…

…but by coming back to the foundations your body has been asking for all along

The healthcare system isn't failing us.

It's doing exactly what it was designed to do.

Built to manage symptoms.
Built to sustain chronic disease.
Built to keep you coming back.

My guest this week, Emma Tekstra, spent 25 years inside Fortune 500 benefits programs — and what she found from the inside is hard to unhear.

The good news?

You don't have to wait for the system to change to start healing.

Health sovereignty starts with one decision: to stop handing your health to someone else and start asking better questions.

I just returned from the Institute for Functional Medicine's annual conference feeling inspired, energized, and honestly... reassured.

Every year, I attend hoping to learn what's new.

The latest research.
The latest treatments.
The latest insights.

And while there was plenty of exciting science, I was reminded of something I see over and over again in practice:

The fundamentals still matter.

Our bodies need nourishment.
Our nervous systems need rest.
Our relationships matter.
Our symptoms are signals.
And healing is rarely found in one supplement, one test, or one perfect protocol.

It's found in the daily choices that support the body consistently over time.

One takeaway that especially stayed with me was the importance of connection and community. In a world that often feels increasingly isolated, we're learning more and more about how deeply our relationships impact our physical health.

I'd love to know—which takeaway resonated most with you? 💛

Being back at the IFM's annual conference feels like coming home.

I'm surrounded by over 900 other providers who see the future of medicine as I do - it's functional.

There is so much power in this room.

There is so much power in root cause medicine.

There is so much power in breaking out of the old paradigm of the way medicine has been done to practice a deeper, more specialized and transformative type of medicine.

We are changing the outcomes - one functional medicine provider at a time. All of us on an aligned mission to change the future of medicine for our patients and our families.

I feel so blessed to have found functional medicine and to witness the healing transformations that come when we stop covering up symptoms and start asking why.

The future of medicine is functional.

So many women have learned to override their body’s signals and live on autopilot.

Push through the exhaustion.
Ignore the stress.
Keep performing.
Keep producing.

But eventually… the body starts speaking louder.

✨ Symptoms are not random.
They’re information.

This conversation was such an important reminder that true healing often begins when we stop overriding ourselves to give to others.

See you in San Diego! 🌴

I am so excited to be heading back to the IFM Annual International Conference this year, and I have some extra news to share.

I have been asked to facilitate a roundtable discussion while I'm there, and the topic is one I feel deeply about: Why a practice should start with a coach-first philosophy.

This is at the heart of how we do things at Balanced Living. When women have the right support alongside their care, healing happens faster, deeper, and in a way that actually sticks.

I can't wait to connect with the functional medicine community and keep moving this conversation forward.

Today we pause to remember and honor those who gave so much.

And in that pause, there’s also space to slow down…

to be present
to take a breath
to step out of the constant doing

Rest can be a way of honoring too.

Wishing you a meaningful and restful day 💛

You don’t need more right now.

You need less.

Less rushing
Less pressure
Less constant output

Small shifts → calmer nervous system → more capacity

Rest is productive
You don’t have to earn it 💛

I told myself it was probably nothing.

I let it go. For too long.

It turned out to be a basal cell carcinoma on the side of my nose.

I needed Mohs surgery.

And I am a doctor.

If I dismissed it, I understand completely why you might too.

But here is what my guest on this week's podcast, Dr. Angela Casey, shared that I want you to sit with:

Skin cancer outnumbers every other cancer combined.

1 in 5 Americans will be affected by skin cancer by age 70.

That is probably you. Or someone you love.

The part that matters most, though, is this: it is also one of the most preventable cancers we have. And one of the most treatable when you catch it early.

You are not being dramatic when you take a spot seriously. You are just paying attention.

You don’t get to step away from motherhood when your body isn’t okay.
And that’s what makes this so hard.

Your body still needs rest.
Support.
Recovery.

But life keeps asking you to show up.

So you push through.
And over time… your system feels it.

You’re not doing this wrong.
You’re navigating something that requires more support than most people realize.

If your body has been asking for more support…
this is exactly the kind of work we offer.

Because when we support you, your whole family feels better.
