For three summers in a row, we have been blessed by the incredible kindness and generosity of Tom Prins. We wanted to share this story because it warms our hearts, and we know it will do the same for you!

Our friendship with Tom started completely by surprise back in July 2024. A large group of us went out for dinner at the Blueline, and when it came time to pay, we were stunned to learn that a stranger had already paid for all of our meals and the tip before slipping out of the restaurant! He didn't do it for recognition or praise; it was just a completely selfless act of pure kindness. We eventually coaxed his name out of the waitress, and the very next month, Tom came to our annual Show and Shine car show, allowing us to finally meet and thank him in person!

Since then, Tom has continued to watch over us and support our community. In August 2025, we held a lemonade stand and wheelchair / walker wash fundraiser in our parking lot. Tom showed up to cheer us on and gave a very generous cash donation toward our new bus.

Just this past Tuesday, we loaded up that bus and went to Pizza Ranch for dinner, and Tom and his wife Tammy happened to be there. He came over to say hello and instantly tried to treat us all to dinner again. Since we had already paid for our buffets, he bought a $150 gift card instead and handed it to us for our next visit!

Tom didn't know us when he first paid for our meals two years ago, and he never looks for the glory. He gives simply because he is a truly good person with a selfless heart. We are so grateful for the random act of kindness that connected us, and we are even more grateful for the friendship that followed. Thank you, Tom, for being such an inspiration and for making the world a beautiful place!

We could not be more excited to introduce Roger and Marilyn Bode, the newest residents to join our community!

Roger is originally from Pipestone and Marilyn is from Luverne. In 1964, just six weeks after getting married, they moved to Worthington and have called it home ever since. They put down deep roots here, raising their three children: Julie, Phil, and Steve.

Roger worked at the TV Service Center on 10th Street for five years before purchasing the business. He operated it for over 50 years before transitioning to Home Satellite Systems, building countless lifelong friendships along the way. In fact, every time he and Marilyn go shopping, they still run into his former customers!

Marilyn stayed equally busy running an in-home daycare, managing their children's schedules, and making their house a home.

Over the years, the couple loved taking road trips together. Their travels took them to Nashville Tennessee, Georgia to visit their son, and Florida to see Roger's sister but their favorite destination of all is the Black Hills, which they have visited numerous times.

In her free time, Marilyn enjoys crafting, creating diamond art, and decorating. Her beautifully styled entryway shelf already catches the eye of everyone walking past! Roger is an avid reader, and together, they love relaxing on their patio to enjoy the beautiful view.

Welcome to the family, Roger and Marilyn! We are so incredibly happy that you chose Ecumen Meadows as your new home!

Our cutie chauffeur Cheryl took us for a countryside cruise! One of the stops we made was at Hawkeye Point, which is the highest natural point in Iowa, sitting at an elevation of 1,670 feet above sea level.

It’s a super-sized proud grandparent moment for Mary and Bob! Their grandson, Zach, was just named Captain of the Iowa Hawkeyes football team!

Zach has always been a phenomenal all-around athlete. During his time at Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids, he played golf, basketball, and served as the star quarterback for the football team, and Bob and Mary never missed a single home game!

While Zach excelled in all three sports, his incredible football skills earned him a full scholarship to the University of Iowa. Because Iowa City is over five hours away, Bob and Mary have traded the stadium bleachers for the comfort of their living room recliners, but they still never miss a game! You can catch Zach and the Hawkeyes playing on the Big Ten Network this season.

Zach has a big, exciting year ahead of him. He will graduate this December with a degree in sports medicine, and he is getting married next June! After that, a shot at the pros might even be on the horizon. No matter what the future holds, one thing is for certain, Bob and Mary will be proudly cheering him on every step of the way!

The King Turkey Day, Inc. Official 2026 race team was our Community Coffee speaker this month, and they were an incredibly fun bunch! Paycheck even came along as a surprise guest!

Megan Prins, Toni Brouillet, Jay Jensen, and Patrick Mahoney make up this year's race team. After hearing about their training schedule and strategies, we're confident that Paycheck is in the best of hands and will make Worthington proud on race day!

You can catch "The Great Gobbler Gallop" on downtown's main drag, 10th Street, at 1:30 PM on Saturday, September 19th. Good luck, Megan, Toni, Jay, and Pat! Go, Paycheck, go!
