A Note from the Administrator ❤️
Over the last year, I’ve jokingly called opening Overbrook Landing a “once in a lifetime opportunity, and thank God I only have to do it once in my lifetime.” 😂
And I mean that with love… obviously.
This journey has tested me in ways I never anticipated. We’ve faced unprecedented delays with Medicaid and Medicare certification, insurance contracting, and all the processes that follow, much of which have been outside of our control.
It’s incredibly frustrating to have beautiful private rooms, spacious and accommodating bathrooms, and an incredible team, while people in our own community need care and administrative barriers have kept us from serving as many of them as I know we can.
Honestly, I can’t stand it. We have so much to offer, and it’s really just not fair!!!
But then I get a card like this, and somehow, the tension eases just a little.
A family thanked our team for making sure their loved one got to a dental appointment. Something that seems so simple...a literal minimum requirement. Someone stayed with him, helped him through it, handled the details, and made sure he got safely back home to Overbrook.
To us, that’s part of the job. To his family, it meant enough to sit down and write a thank you note. Sometimes the biggest impact comes from the simplest things: showing up, easing someone’s worries, keeping their family connected, and making sure they feel genuinely cared for.
We’ve also had the privilege of caring for many skilled residents who came to us needing therapy and nursing care and then watching them regain their independence and return home to their families. Knowing Overbrook was just one chapter in helping someone get back to the life they wanted is incredibly rewarding.
This card is one of many I’ve been fortunate enough to receive this year, and those reminders have carried a lot of weight during some very difficult months.
We may still be growing, but along the way we’ve earned a 5-star Google rating and, much more importantly, the trust and appreciation of the residents and families who have given us the opportunity to care for them.
I grew up here. I’ve raised my family here, continued my education here, and built my career here. I genuinely want Overbrook Landing to be a place where people in this community can receive the kind of care I would expect for my own family.
There have been setbacks. There have been delays. There have definitely been days when Overbrook has been an absolute pain in my you know what 😂
But then I get a card like this.
And this is the stuff that keeps me going.
Because sometimes the smallest things we do in healthcare are the things families remember most.
Thanks for listening,
Sam
