Little Blessings Birth Services

Little Blessings Birth Services Empowering families through compassionate holistic midwifery care. The term doula is a fairly new term in the US birthing community. Sounds pretty simple, right?

However, the practice of having a doula has been around for quite some time, especially in other countries. Doula simply means a woman who serves. Well, it pretty much is. However, when a woman who has the experience of birth, or the training to help assist, comes alongside a laboring mother beautiful things happen. According to the DONA website:

"Numerous clinical studies have found that a doul

a’s presence at birth

tends to result in shorter labors with fewer complications
reduces negative feelings about one’s childbirth experience
reduces the need for pitocin (a labor-inducing drug), forceps or vacuum extraction and cesareans
reduces the mother’s request for pain medication and/or epidurals

Research shows parents who receive support can:

Feel more secure and cared for
Are more successful in adapting to new family dynamics
Have greater success with breastfeeding
Have greater self-confidence
Have less postpartum depression
Have lower incidence of abuse"

She hoped
She prepared
She labored
And then - she did

This is one of those stories where there are so many things that could be said. Yet, somehow, none of the words quite sound right

The perfect couple
The perfect family support
A beautiful birth story

This family hoped for, planned for, and worked for their home VBAC. The research was done. The work behind the scenes was done. And it showed! Witnessing this couple work together with their birth team to labor their sweet babe down and welcome her in arms was a thing of beauty. I could not be more honored to have been a witness to this birth story unfold and watch this little blessing be welcomed into loving arms.

The love in this photo says it all.

Congratulations to this amazing family. Job well done! 💜

I love the people I get the pleasure of working with so much! I mean, who else other than a doula or birth assistant with home birth experience would look at a child’s toy and say - that’s a peanut ball! The creativity that leads to giggles and stories to be cherished and passed down makes my entire being smile.

Whelp… I caught alright. Mom pushed like the amazing woman that she is. And sweet baby girl made sure to leave an adorable bum print on my shirt and cover it in birthday frosting to help prove that I caught. 😂 She was feeling extra celebratory, I guess. Welcome earthside, precious little blessing. It was my honor to be present on your birth day 🥰

Two years and a day apart. Welcomed into expecting arms with birthday decorations up celebrating big brother, this sweet little blessing made his birth day story one unique to him.

Having the privilege of building relationships with my clients through their care makes moments like these mean just a little bit more. This sweet mom messaged me early in her pregnancy and we had a good chuckle over the fact that her due date was the exact same as it was with her previous blessings. Even more knowing that her previous was a due date baby.

We spent the pregnancy wondering if brothers would end up birthday twins or if this little blessing would ask for his own birth date.

An appointment on her due date had us thinking these brothers would be sharing different dates, but the story wasn’t done. Not much before the end of her due date she sent a text - my water broke!

Much like this little guy’s personality, labor was slow and gentle. It eased on through the night, being respectful of the quiet and allowing rest. But again, this was not the end of the story.

With labor seemingly taking its time a morning nap was deemed appropriate. Apparently babe decided it needed to be a nap for two with a little one in arms because next to the bed was as close as this mom got. After a 0-60 shift in labor she was soon holding her little blessing in arms.

Labor started on her due date two years after we welcomed big brother. But it seemed the newest addition wanted a birth date and unique story of his own.

Congratulations to the amazing family that welcomed their newest little blessing on 7/29. I’m so honored to be your midwife and walk alongside your family and blessed beyond measure that I had the privilege of being a part of the almost birthday twin brothers’ stories. 🥰

Why am I a midwife?
Because of moments like this.
Having the honor of watching a mother embrace new life for a second time. Being able to enjoy the curiosity and awe of little sister as she listens to the heart beat of her future bestie. And all while proudly watching a student’s skills blossoming.

I’m a midwife so I can enjoy the relationships that naturally form while walking alongside families during their care. There is something so beautiful and so immensely humbling about being welcomed into this portion of a family’s journey. I’m so blessed that after 8 years I’m still being invited to serve.

When you’re at work and realize one of your favorite places to send clients to sent you goodies. 🥰 Not pictured because it got devoured by boys - yummy popcorn. 🤤

Thanks, Active Life for the treats! And thank you for helping keep expecting moms and fresh babes feeling their best.

Provider Spotlight!
I am so excited to be sharing this resource for a couple reasons!

One, because I feel like often times dads are overlooked in the postpartum period. They’re the rocks and main support for moms and little blessings. It’s a big shift emotionally, mentally, and hormonally for them too.

Two, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect person to be offering this resource for dads. Bradley is genuine, gets it from a dad’s perspective, and has a great approach and understanding of mental health. So happy to have this offering in our valley. 💜

One of my favorite things is getting to visit moms and new little blessings at home during the first two weeks. Postpartum is a time of adjustment for the entire family. I love being able to check in with mom and baby to ensure the transition into life’s new normal is going well. What’s included during a home postpartum visit?

- Vitals on mom & baby
- Seeing how mom & baby are adjusting
- Making sure baby is gaining weight appropriately
- Offering breastfeeding help, if needed
- Ensuring postpartum healing is going well
- Assessing risks for postpartum depression

The part I like is during the first two weeks I have the honor of serving families from the comfort of their homes so they can focus on their new blessing.

I know. I know. Crickets have been singing over here for Little Blessings social media. 🫣 But it’s only because I’ve been busy! What’s been going on behind the scenes?

🤰Welcoming precious babes into ready arms of loving families. 🧑‍🍼

🚗 Coming alongside a community that needed some care after their community midwife retired (which meant at least weekly 3 hr commutes). ⛰️

🌻 Meeting a fabulous new doula and brainstorming ways to meet the needs of our Yakima & Kittitas County families. 🌸

🤝 Building new relationships with care providers all over Eastern WA. 🤝

Social media has been quiet, but I promise, good things have been happening behind the scenes. My hope is to be better about informing everyone about what’s been going on so you can be just as excited the growth and changes too! 💜
