So many families are dealing with colds right now! Most kids with a cold will recover on their own with some extra rest and fluids and do not need to be seen by a doctor. But some kids might need to be seen by their pediatrician. Here’s when to call your pediatrician if your child has a cold. And remember, babies 3 months and younger with cold symptoms should always be seen right away by their pediatrician.

Baby reflux is a common condition where stomach contents come back up into a baby's esophagus. Reflux usually resolves by itself by 12-18 months. If reflux causes trouble feeding or breathing, it is called GERD. Serious complications of GERD are rare. Review this post for more information and always contact your child's pediatrician for questions or concerns.

If you have a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), reading can help in situations where the child does not like certain textures and activities or has trouble getting along with other kids. Over time, reading aloud can also strengthen speech and language skills. If you find reading with your child challenging, consider trying these tips during your next reading session together:

1. Read together when your child is relaxed and paying attention, such as before bedtime.

2. Read books that have photos and drawings of faces. These can help your child recognize feelings.

3. Read the same story many times. Children enjoy the repetition and it helps them learn language.

4. Point to pictures and talk about them. “Look at the silly monkey!: You can also ask your child to point at certain things. “Where is the cat?”

5. Find books that repeat words many times. Books with thymes are also good.

6. Softly clap your hands and help your child clap along to the rhythm of the words.

7. Try books with buttons that make a sound when pushed. Many children with ASD enjoy these.

Vitamin D plays a key role in strong bones for kids and adults 🦴 It helps the body absorb and maintain calcium, while also supporting muscle and immune health. Many kids get vitamin D from fortified foods like milk, cereal, and orange juice. Boost intake in fun ways with yogurt smoothies or parfaits, dairy-free berry tofu blends, egg “animal” snacks, or French toast with cheese.
