To my Salt and Sage community,
I want to have a candid conversation.
Over the last few years, I have had the privilege of caring for thousands of people. I have celebrated pregnancies, held space through grief, worked with injuries, and watched many of you make massage a regular part of your wellness routine. I do not take that trust lightly.
Because of that, I also need to be honest about something that has become increasingly important to me.
Massage is not a product that sits on a shelf. It is not something that can simply be purchased and handed to another person regardless of how they feel. It is a deeply personal experience that requires trust, consent, and a willingness to receive care.
Recently, we have had an increase in appointments being booked for individuals who did not actually want to be here. Some have arrived embarrassed, frustrated, or feeling obligated because a friend, partner, or family member made the decision for them.
That is not fair to them, and it is not fair to the therapists who show up with the intention of creating a safe and restorative environment.
I want to be very clear: Salt and Sage will not participate in pressuring someone into receiving bodywork. If someone does not wish to attend their appointment, we will respect that decision. Appointments made for unwilling participants may be canceled, and our cancellation policies will still apply.
The greatest gift you can give someone is the opportunity to choose care for themselves. A conversation and an invitation will always be more meaningful than an obligation.
Thank you for helping us protect the atmosphere we have worked so hard to create—one built on trust, kindness, and mutual respect.
With gratitude,
Madison
