Thank you to everyone who joined us for our annual WDOM community gathering! đź’™

We were honored to bring together advocates, community partners, and elected officials to celebrate our work and discuss important policy changes that will impact people with disabilities, including upcoming Medicaid enrollment requirements taking effect in 2027.

We also enjoyed an adaptive hiking demonstration by Westchester Parks Foundation, along with games, music by DJ Rhythem, and refreshments generously provided by DeCicco's & Sons Markets and Bona Bona Ice Cream.

Together, we remain committed to empowering, informing, and advocating for the disability community throughout Westchester County. Thank you for standing with us!

Tell The Governor To Sign NonProfit Contracting Reform Bill

State Legislators and nonprofits gathered at a press conference in Elmsford organized by Nonprofit Westchester to call on the Governor to sign legislation to fix the nonprofit payment system.

Like hundreds of nonprofits across the state, Westchester Disabled On the Move (WDOM) must continue to provide essential services, pay employees, cover rent, and meet every obligation—even when the State fails to pay on time. We cannot put the disability community on hold because Albany’s contracting system is broken.

This crucial concern has the full support of our local legislators, including Senator Shelley Mayer and Assemblymembers Amy Paulin and Dana Levenger. At the forefront of this advocacy was NPW’s Jan Fisher, leading her large membership of Westchester nonprofits.

The Legislature passed two bipartisan bills at the close of the legislative session to reform the nonprofit contracting process: S.9761 (Mayer) / A.10741 (Paulin) and S.9855 (Mayer) / A.11179 (Paulin).

Governor Hochul must sign both bills without delay. New York’s nonprofits deserve better—and so do the communities we serve.

Join WDOM for our Annual Meeting, our most important event of the year!

This year’s celebration will take place at Ridge Road Park in Hartsdale on July 30 from 11 AM–2 PM. Enjoy an afternoon filled with music, food, festivities, and giveaways! 🎉

We’re excited to welcome a special guest, the Westchester Parks Foundation (WPF), who will showcase their Trails Without Limits program, an initiative that helps make Westchester parks more accessible for wheelchair users and individuals with mobility challenges. Attendees will have the opportunity to see a demonstration of WPF’s All-Terrain TrackChairs and even test them out! ♿🌳

WDOM will also share important updates for our clients and partners as we continue working to address changes impacting Medicaid enrollment and other safety net programs.

We are so incredibly thankful for Jenna Bainbridge’s support in helping us in our efforts to make people with disabilities aware of their voting options during the 2024 elections.

Now it's our turn to support her. Jenna, an actor, singer, and disability rights advocate, fractured her spine at 16 months old and became partially paralyzed from the waist down. In 2024, she became the first wheelchair user to perform in a New Musical on Broadway when she made her debut in Suffs, which won the 2024 Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Music. Now she’s in the Broadway Musical Wicked.

741 New York nonprofits have united to tell Governor Hochul: enough is enough. Years of chronic late payments, delayed contracts, and burdensome, inefficient state processes are undermining the organizations that New Yorkers rely on every day.

Thank you to the Lake Avenue Association for inviting WDOM to speak to them on June 17.

More than 50 people heard from WDOM staff Jaden Salmon and Wendy Martinez about the services we provide to help the community better navigate the healthcare system and access other important resources.
