Country Living, God’s Blueprint for Health, Holiness, and Preparation

PART 3

5. Practical Steps Toward Country Living

1. Pray for Guidance
Seek God’s timing and direction before making any move.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6

2. Start Small
Even a small garden or balcony can begin the journey toward self-sufficiency. “For who hath despised the day of small things?” - Zechariah 4:10 “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much.” - Luke 16:10

3. Learn Practical Skills
Gardening, food preservation, herbal medicine, and simple living are valuable tools. “And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.” - Genesis 2:15
“In all labour there is profit.” - Proverbs 14:23

4. Build Community
Connect with like minded believers who share the same vision.
“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together.” - Hebrews 10:24–25 “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.” - Ecclesiastes 4:9

5. Live Missionally
Country living is not isolation; it’s preparation for service. From quiet places, God’s people can shine light to the world.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” - Matthew 5:14 - “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” -Psalm 46:10

Sister White on Country Living

1. God’s Call to Leave the Cities
Ellen White urged believers to move out of crowded, corrupt cities to preserve physical health and spiritual life. She wrote that cities would become increasingly dangerous and filled with moral pollution.

2. Country Living as a Means of Preparation
She viewed country living as preparation for the final crisis and for heaven itself. The quiet, natural environment helps develop faith, self-reliance, and dependence on God.

3. Health and Character Development
Living close to nature was seen as beneficial for physical health and moral strength. Working the soil and breathing fresh air were part of God’s original plan for humanity.

4. A Place for Family and Education
She encouraged families to raise their children in the country, where they could learn practical skills, appreciate God’s creation, and be shielded from worldly influences.

5. Missionary Purpose of Country Living
Ellen White made clear that country living was not for isolation but for mission. From rural homes, believers could reach the cities with the gospel.

In essence, Sister White saw country living as a divine call to simplicity, health, family unity, and spiritual readiness, an environment where God’s people could grow in grace and prepare to serve others effectively.

May God bless us as we prepare our hearts!!

Country Living, God’s Blueprint for Health, Holiness, and Preparation

PART 2

Before the Sunday Law

1. Moral Decline and Spiritual Darkness
Society becomes increasingly corrupt, rejecting God’s law and truth. “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.” - 2 Timothy 3:1

2. Natural Disasters and Economic Collapse
Disasters increase in frequency and intensity - earthquakes, fires, floods, pestilences - leading people to believe that divine judgments are falling because of national sin.

3. Rise of Spiritualism and False Revival
Miracles, visions, and supernatural manifestations deceive many.
“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders.” - Matthew 24:24

4. Union of Church and State
Religious leaders unite with political powers to enforce moral reform through legislation.

During the Sunday Law

1. The National Sunday Law Enforced
A decree is passed requiring all to honour Sunday as a day of rest. Those who refuse are labelled as enemies of order and morality. “He causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark.” - Revelation 13:16

2. Persecution of God’s People
Those who remain faithful to the seventh-day Sabbath face fines, imprisonment, and eventually death decrees.

3. The Loud Cry and Latter Rain
At the same time, the Holy Spirit is poured out on God’s faithful people to proclaim the final message, the Three Angels’ Messages of Revelation 14.

4. The Close of Probation
When every soul has made their decision for or against God’s law, Christ’s intercession in the heavenly sanctuary ceases.
“He that is unjust, let him be unjust still… and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still.” - Revelation 22:11

After the Sunday Law (After the Close of Probation)

1. The Seven Last Plagues
God’s judgments fall upon the unrepentant. These plagues are literal and devastating, sores, blood, heat, darkness, and destruction. “And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying… Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.” - Revelation 16:1

2. The Death Decree
A final decree is issued to destroy all Sabbath-keepers.

3. The Time of Jacob’s Trouble
God’s people, sealed and protected, endure a time of anguish and testing, clinging to faith in Christ’s promises.
“Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble.” - Jeremiah 30:7

4. The Deliverance of God’s People
At the darkest hour, God’s voice is heard declaring the everlasting covenant. The wicked are struck with terror, and the faithful are delivered. “And at that time shall Michael stand up… and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was.” - Daniel 12:1

5. The Second Coming of Christ
The heavens open, and Christ returns in glory to gather His faithful ones. “For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God.” - 1 Thessalonians 4:16

Could this be a good enough reason why we need to get out of the cities. We are told in Revelation 18:4 "...Come out of her my people."

Application for Believers

Spiritual Separation - It's a call to live with distinctively godly values, resisting the pressures of humanistic society and ungodly patterns of behavior, rather than literal isolation.

Loyalty to Christ - It emphasizes having one allegiance to God and His kingdom, even when living within a flawed world.

Urgency - It's a call to immediate obedience and faithfulness, warning against spiritual complacency.

Final Thought from The Pen of Inspiration…

The purpose of prophecy is not to create fear, but to inspire faith and readiness. Those who walk daily with Christ, obey His commandments, and trust His promises will be sheltered under His wings when the final crisis breaks. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” - Psalm 91:1

Country Living, God’s Blueprint for Health, Holiness, and Preparation

PART 1

Introduction - God’s Original Plan

From the very beginning, God designed the ideal environment for humanity, not in crowded cities, but in the beauty and simplicity of nature.

“And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there He put the man whom He had formed.” - Genesis 2:8
The first home was a garden, a place of peace, purity, and communion with God. In nature, Adam and Eve could hear His voice, study His works, and find joy in labour that strengthened both body and mind.

Sister White wrote…

The Dangers of City Life
Throughout Scripture, cities often symbolize pride, corruption, and rebellion against God. From Babel to S***m, urban life has repeatedly drawn hearts away from divine principles.
“And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere… then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.” - Genesis 13:10–11

Lot’s choice to live near S***m brought sorrow and loss. The city’s moral decay eventually destroyed everything he valued.

Sister White warned…

The Blessings of Country Living
Country living is not merely about location, it is about restoration. It reconnects the soul with God’s creation and provides the best conditions for physical, mental, and spiritual growth.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handiwork.” - Psalm 19:1

In the quiet of nature, the heart is more open to the voice of the Holy Spirit. The air is purer, the food fresher, and the mind freer from worldly distractions.

Sister White wrote…

Country Living and Family Life
The country home provides the ideal setting for raising children in the fear of the Lord. Away from the corrupting influences of city life, families can cultivate faith, diligence, and purity.
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” - Proverbs 22:6

Sister White emphasized…

Country Living as Preparation for the End Times
The call to leave the cities is not only for health and family well-being, it is also a spiritual preparation for the final crisis.
“Come out of her, My people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” - Revelation 18:4

She gave clear counsel…

Country living fosters self-sufficiency, growing food, using natural remedies, and depending on God rather than worldly systems. It is a training ground for faith and endurance.

The sequence of events surrounding the Sunday Law is drawn from Bible prophecy and the writings of Sister Ellen White, especially in The Great Controversy, Testimonies for the Church, and Last Day Events. These writings describe a progressive crisis that tests the loyalty of every soul. Below is a clear outline of the most serious events before, during, and after the Sunday Law, based on Scripture and the Spirit of Prophecy...
