Sersia Butler Service

Ms. Sersia Bell Butler, 77, of York, SC and formerly of Chester, SC, departed this life on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at home. Born November 20, 1948 in Chester, she was a daughter of the late Belinda and Sylvia (Ford) Butler.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Union Baptist Church in Chester, SC. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm prior to the service, and other times at the home.

Miss Sersia Bell Butler, 77, slept away peacefully from this earthly life on June 4, 2026 at her home in York, SC. Born November 20, 1948, she was a daughter of the late Mr. Belinda Butler and Mrs. Sylvia Ann Ford Butler.

Sersia attended Chester County Schools in Chester, SC. She was a lifelong member of Union Baptist Church in Chester, where she joined at an early age. There, she served as a member of the Usher Board, Butler-Crosby Choir, Kitchen Committee and Missionary Society.

Sersia brought love and laughter to all who knew her. She was a lifelong caregiver, and her loving and nurturing spirit was well known to her family, friends and community. She will be forever remembered for her warm and loving smile and caring manner.

Sersia loved traveling, especially going on cruises. She travelled to many islands in the Caribbean and to Hawaii. She loved arts and crafts, drawing and painting as well. Sersia loved caring for others and knowing that she was wanted and needed. This gave Sersia a sense of worth and purpose, and this made her beloved by family and friends alike. Sersia was very blessed and lived life to the fullest.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Emma A. Bunn, and “Little” Sylvia Ann; brothers, Belindo Butler, Rufus M. Butler and Robert E. Butler; and two best friends, Alice Williams of York, SC and Dorothy Doyle of Plainfield, NJ.

Surviving to cherish loving memories are her sister and caregiver, Gussie D. Butler of the home; other sisters, Willette B. Sammons of Middletown, DE, and Talatha B. Crosby (Avis) of Portsmouth, VA; two brothers, Arthur Butler of the home and William I. Butler (Elaine) of Rock Hill, SC; her best friends, Lillie Mae Sanders and Evangelist Gloria Grier both of Chester, SC; as well as a host of nieces and nephews whom she helped to nurture, cousins and friends.

Michael Kerns Obituary
Mr. Michael Anthony Kerns passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026 in York, SC. Born June 1, 1972 in Parma, Ohio, he was a son of late Donald Anthony Kerns and Marian Martha Kerns.

Michael worked for many years as a security guard and was most recently part of the LPL Financial security team.

A very giving person, Michael was a Messianic Jewish minister and frequently served the poor in the community.

Michael enjoyed hiking, camping, traveling and watching football, while screaming at the television. He enjoyed writing and was a published author.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Marian Marie Kerns.

Surviving to cherish fond memories are his wife, Danielle Marie (Lyon) Kerns; three daughters, Christee Lynne Kerns-Marquis (Joshua), Kimberly Rose Kerns, and Alexandria Marie Kerns Sutherland (Chase); three grandsons, Jaxton Michael Marquis, Aiden Michael Sutherland and Lyric Dakota Sutherland; two granddaughters, Serenity Neveah Sutherland and Genesis Rayne Sutherland; one brother, Donald Jude Kerns; and one sister, Marilyn R. Kerns Lawrence-Gladden (Jeffrey); as well as a host of other family and friends.

Services will be 5:00 pm, Sunday, June 14, 2026 at the funeral home.

Devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister

Allison Ann Papas, age 47, died peacefully after a sudden illness on May 8th, 2026.

Born on December 22, 1978 in Staten Island, New York, she was the firstborn and eldest daughter of Anthony and Donna (nee Sanza) Cioffoletti.

She attended New Dorp High School, and soon afterwards started her career in the financial sector, beginning at Lovell Safety Management Co., Manhattan. She later worked for Honda Financial Services, and in recent years, Wells Fargo.

In March 2010, Allison married Anthony Papas after the two first met on a night out in 1998. This year, they celebrated sixteen years of marriage. She was his rock, just as he was hers.

They moved to the Carolinas in 2005, settling in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and more recently in York, South Carolina; a place they truly loved and were proud to call home.

Together, they raised their son, Anthony, with immense care, fun, devotion, and pride. Allison was a deeply devoted mother whose love for her son was at the center of her being.

Allison enjoyed baking, trips to NY to visit family, Christmas movies, and a good cup of coffee. She was an avid reader and passionate about books. She was a skilled poetry writer, entering poetry readings throughout Staten Island as a teenager. She was over the moon for her dogs Eli, Milo, and Isabelle.

She was known for her generosity, quick wit, and deep love of her family. She was also a very proud bilateral cochlear implant warrior. She will be immensely missed by all of us forever.

Allison is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, Anthony; Son, Anthony; Mother, Donna Cioffoletti; Sisters, Aprile Love (Jesse Warcup), Amy, Alicia; Grandmother, Dolores Sanza; Aunts, Debbie (Jim McCreay), Dolores (Bob Maikranz); Uncle, Danny Cioffoletti (LeeAnn) of North Ridgeville, OH; Aunt, Donna Cioffoletti of North Ridgeville, OH.

Allison was preceded in death by her Father, Anthony Cioffoletti, Grandfather, Donato Sanza and Grandparents, Anthony and Anne Cioffoletti.

Allison is being cremated, per her request, with a Celebration of Life to follow.

Mr. Kelly Woods, 73, crossed over on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 from Pineridge Health & Rehabilitation Center in Thomasville, NC. Born June 24, 1952 in York County, SC, he was the son of Gilbert and Frances Woods. He attended Roosevelt High School and had a career as a mechanic. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and he loved drag racing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Gilbert Woods, Jr., David Woods, and Jerry Woods.

Surviving to cherish fond memories are his two sons, Kelvin Woods and Ramon Woods (Annette) both of Gastonia NC; three sisters, Sadie Brice (Calvin), Annie Burris, and Nell Pressley (Elaizer) all of Rock Hill, SC; four brothers, Dr. Charles Woods (Wanda) of Gastonia NC, Jeffery Woods of Gaffney, SC, Frank Woods and Larry Woods (Kimberly) both of Rock Hill, SC.

Kelly is also survived by his four grandchildren: Tanja Phillips (Ronald), Stefanie Miller, Duece Woods, and KJ Woods; nine great grandchildren: Aaliyah, Jaylen, Ronald Jr., Rico, Tyrian, Amari, Iyanna, Ragen and Fang; his sisters-in-law, Doris Woods of Gastonia, NC and Marcella Woods of Rock Hill, SC; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC with Rev. Charles Woods officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow the service.

Mrs. Dorothy Cobb, 86, of York, South Carolina was born March 11, 1940 in Sharon, South Carolina to the late Eugenia McCleave and John Richard Feaster. Affectionately known as “Dot,” she departed this life on April 14, 2026 at home, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service and dedication to her family and community.

Dorothy was educated in the York School District and was a proud graduate of Jefferson High School, Class of 1959. She went on to dedicate over 30 years of service to the York School District One as a Teacher Aide and ISS Proctor. Known for her firm but caring nature, her classroom earned the nickname “Cobb County,” a testament to her reputation as a strict disciplinarian who deeply cared about her students’ success. Mrs. Cobb retired in 2005.

Mrs. Cobb especially loved to play Bid Whist and seek and find puzzles, read books and listen to Church music. She always supported the community Back to School Drive and dance and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. Dot was additionally known for making her “Honey Bun Cakes” for her family and the community.

At an early age, Mrs. Cobb accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, beginning her membership at St. John Baptist Church in Sharon, SC, then later moving to Fishing Creek Baptist Church in York, SC. Over the years, she served on the Usher Board at St. John, and as Chairman of the Pastors Aide and Assistant Secretary of the Hymn Choir at Fishing Creek. She was also a member of the Shepard Fold Lodge #22 of the A.P.&B. Society.

A committed community servant, Dorothy was a Silver Life Member of the Western York County NAACP and the Optimist Club. She remained actively involved in community affairs throughout her life. She was well known and respected by many for her strength, wisdom, and unwavering presence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Cobb; daughter, Shirley Feaster Wilmore; Parents: John Richard Feaster and Mr. & Mrs. Robert W. Good (Eugenia); sisters, Frances Jones and Mary R. Hughes; brothers, Ernest Jones, Johnny Love, Jr., and Pete Jones; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Good and Marilyn C. Good; and a brother-in-law, Wilmore Adams.

Left to cherish loving memories are one daughter, Carol R. Jones (Greg) of Shelby, NC; one son, David L. Mrs. Carolyn Guthrie Rhodes, of York, SC passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church in York, SC with Rev. Richard Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Uniondale Cemetery in York.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Monday, April 20th at the funeral home.

Mrs. Carolyn Patricia Guthrie Rhodes, of 9 Pinckney Street, York, SC, gained her wings on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. Born July 12, 1948 in York, she was a daughter of Josie Guthrie and the late Albert McClinton.

Carolyn was educated in York Public Schools and was a proud graduate of Jefferson High School Class of 1966. Loving singing from an early age, she was a member of the Jefferson Glee Club.

She joined Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church at a young age and served faithfully for many years. She was a member of the choir, Deaconess Board, and Willing Workers Committee. Carolyn was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Lux Fiat #110 until her health failed.

Carolyn worked for many years as a teacher’s aide in the York School District. She touched many young minds in the York Community. Retiring early due to poor health, her legacy is still strong.

Carolyn was also a great cook who was known for her pound cakes, and was a surrogate mother to many people, and fed many others. She loved God first and spread that love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Tommy Rhodes; two sisters, Dorothy McClinton and Gloria Jean Brown; three brothers, William Guthrie, Donald Guthrie and Robert McClinton; her son-in-law, Johnny “JB” Brown; and two brothers-in-law, Melvin McClain and Johnny McClain.

Surviving to cherish loving memories are her mother, Josie Guthrie; her children, Sheryl H. Brown of York, SC and Christopher Rhodes (Chinita) of Clover, SC; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; one goddaughter, Crystal P. Hughes; her sisters, Donnetta Malbrough (David) and Alberta Gilmore (Harry) both of Rock Hill, SC; her brothers, Filmore Clark of Gastonia, NC and Jerry Nance of High Point, NC; her aunt, Marie M. Hill of York, SC; her sisters-in-law, Alma Kennedy, Jackie Simpson, and Lillian McClinton all of Charlotte, NC and Muriel McClain of Rock Hill, SC; brothers-in-law, William McClain (Earlene), Donnie McClain, both of York, SC, and Lloyd Wilson of Myrtle Beach, SC. She will also be missed by her close childhood friend, Mamie Wells of McConnells, SC, and a special cousin, Sheila Walker of Austin, TX; two special friends, Mr. Grover Sanders and Mr. Eddie Steele; a numerous host of nieces, nephews, and cousins will also share in her loving memory. Ebbie V. Childers, a resident of Hickory Grove, South Carolina, passed away on April 13, 2026, at the age of 79.

He was born on November 11, 1946, and was the son of the late Boyce and Letha Childers. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Childers and David Childers.

Ebbie is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Childers; his children, Karen Blackwood (John Blackwood), John Childers (Shannon Childers), and Krystal Stanley (Shane Stanley); his sister, Karen Rakestraw; and his brother, Curtis Childers. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Ebbie was deeply loved by his family and all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed.
