The Fruits of Integration:
Blooming Beyond Survival
Today I was greeted by the first morning glory bloom, ripening tomatoes, and rapidly growing ground cover.
Gardening helps me stay grounded, joyful, and present—though it also sometimes leaves me sore and stiff.
As I was appreciating the new growth after all the labor, I was reminded of seasons in my life that were challenging and felt like they would never end. The good news is that they do end. The hard part is that sometimes our nervous system doesn’t realize it. We stay fixed on the past and lose the ability to fully appreciate and be thankful for the present.
Integration and healing are like the fruits of gardening. They often emerge quietly, after long periods of effort, patience, and tending. You can hold joy for the present while still feeling anger or grief about the past. Growth doesn't erase what was difficult—it simply reminds us that something new can emerge alongside it.
Today, the garden reminded me that healing isn't forgetting. It's learning how to bloom beyond survival.
