One Simple Sign That Matters More Than You Think š
A child's lips can tell us a lot.
A healthy lip seal isn't just about how the mouth looks at rest. It's one of the clearest clues to how a child is breathing, chewing, swallowing, and developing.
When the lips don't come together easily and comfortably, it's often a sign that something else is going on, such as mouth breathing, low tongue posture, less-than-optimal jaw development, or underdeveloped oral muscles.
Another red flag we look for is an everted (rolled-out) lower lip. While it may seem like a small detail, it can be a sign that the lips are working too hard to compensate, the mouth is resting open, or the oral muscles aren't functioning efficiently. It's one more piece of the puzzle that helps us understand how the whole orofacial system is working.
This is exactly what myofunctional therapy is designed to address.
Through consistent, targeted exercises, we retrain the muscles of the lips, cheeks, and tongue so the mouth can function the way it was designed to: staying closed at rest, supporting nasal breathing, and promoting healthy oral function.
Notice how the lower lip changes from rolled outward to relaxed and gently sealed. That isn't just a cosmetic improvementāit's a sign of more efficient muscle function and a healthier resting posture.
The transformation you see here isn't just cosmetic. It's a reflection of improved functionāand that can support better breathing habits, clearer speech, more restful sleep, and healthy facial development over time.
If you're noticing an open-mouth posture, difficulty maintaining a lip seal, or a rolled-out lower lip in your own child, we'd love to help you understand what those signs might mean and whether myofunctional therapy could help.
