Neck pain is common as we get older—but that does not mean you should simply accept it.
Many women in their 40s notice that it becomes harder to:
• Turn their head while driving
• Look over one shoulder
• Work at a computer comfortably
• Sleep without waking up stiff
• Exercise without neck or shoulder tension
Sometimes the neck is being asked to compensate for stiffness elsewhere, especially in the upper back and shoulders.
Try this gentle daily reset:
Chin tuck: Keeping your eyes level, gently draw your head backward without looking down. Hold for three seconds and repeat five times.
Shoulder-blade squeeze: Pull your shoulder blades slightly down and together. Hold for three seconds and repeat five times.
Controlled rotation: Slowly turn your head in each direction only as far as feels comfortable.
Avoid aggressively pulling on your head or forcing a painful stretch. More pressure is not always better.
At StretchClub Yorkville, we assess how your neck, shoulders, posture, and upper back move together. Depending on your needs, care may include one-on-one assisted stretching, joint mobility work, and chiropractic care.
Get medical attention for severe or sudden pain, progressive weakness, loss of coordination, persistent numbness, or neck pain after a significant injury.
