My grandma, Mabel Ruth was born on July 11th, 87 years ago. I was born on her birthday 42 years ago. She said I was the best gift she ever could have asked for. I spent my birthday, at the hospital, working with moms and their 7/11 babies to establish good breastfeeding. To all the birthday babes and to the mothers and grandmothers that are born with their birth, Happy Birthday!

To all fathers on this Father's Day...may you make wonderful memories with your little ones. Thank you for offering encouraging words during times of struggle with breastfeeding instead of formula. Moms want the positive push to "keep going" not bottles. Thank you for helping to give your babies a healthy start!

Help me out Moms...whether you exclusively breast fed, breast and formula fed, or solely formula fed, what were you told about breastfeeding and the alternative, formula use, either during your pregnancy or after delivery?

According to the American Cancer Society, some studies have shown that breastfeeding, especially for at least 1 1/2 to 2 years, slightly lowers your risk for breast cancer. This is thought to be because breastfeeding decreases your total number of menstraul periods, just like pregnancy--which also affects, positively, your breast cancer risk.
