✨ HTW Intern Spotlight ✨

Hello everyone! My name is Alantra Anderson, and I am excited to be completing my Master of Social Work (MSW) journey at Walden University while serving as a Medicaid Waiver Case Manager with NARCOG.

I earned my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from the University of North Alabama and have professional experience in child welfare, behavioral health case management, Medicaid services, and early childhood education.

Throughout my career, I have been honored to work alongside children, families, and vulnerable populations by providing:
💙 Advocacy
💙 Care Coordination
💙 Crisis Intervention
💙 Resource Navigation
💙 Community Support

I am passionate about empowering individuals, strengthening families, and helping people access the resources they need to improve their quality of life. As I continue to grow professionally, I look forward to expanding my clinical skills, deepening my knowledge, and making a meaningful impact in the social work profession.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of this incredible journey of service, learning, and community healing. 🌿

🌟 HTW Staff Challenge: Favorite Treatment Modality 🌟

🎲📚 Games, Connection, and Play-Based Healing! 📚🎲

While bibliotherapy is one of my favorite therapeutic modalities, if I had to choose one tool that I consistently reach for in session, it would be games!

At Holistic Therapy & Wellness, you’ll often find UNO, Jenga, and Break the Ice making appearances in my sessions. These aren’t just games—they’re powerful therapeutic tools that help clients practice and strengthen skills such as:

✨ Impulse Control
✨ Frustration Tolerance
✨ Emotional Regulation
✨ Social Reciprocity
✨ Communication Skills
✨ Problem-Solving

I also love adding a therapeutic twist with activities like “Emotions UNO” and “Get to Know You Jenga,” creating opportunities for meaningful conversations while keeping clients engaged.

As a growing therapist who loves play, I am currently focusing on deepening my skills in nondirective play therapy. However, these more structured and directive interventions remain an important part of my therapeutic toolbox. 🧰💛

Therapy isn’t always about having fun—but creating engaging experiences can help clients feel safe, connected, and motivated to participate in the healing process. Sometimes the most meaningful breakthroughs happen while stacking a Jenga tower or playing a simple game of UNO. 🌿

What was your favorite game growing up? Let us know in the comments! ⬇️

📚 HTW Staff Challenge: Favorite Therapeutic Book

Dr. LaKeisha Thomas, PhD, LCSW, LMSW, Doula, selected The Feel Good Book by Todd Parr.

This colorful and engaging book helps children explore positive emotions, self-confidence, gratitude, kindness, self-expression, and emotional awareness in an age-appropriate way.

Bibliotherapy is one of the many tools used in therapy to help children process feelings, learn coping skills, and build emotional vocabulary.

Books can open conversations that sometimes feel difficult to start.

One page at a time, we help children build emotional wellness and resilience.

What was your favorite childhood book?

Trauma bonding is often misunderstood.

A trauma bond is a strong emotional attachment that can develop within unhealthy, abusive, or manipulative relationships through cycles of affection, criticism, control, fear, and reconciliation.

Understanding trauma bonds can help individuals recognize patterns and begin the healing process.

Common stages may include:

• Love Bombing
• Dependency
• Criticism & Devaluation
• Gaslighting
• Resignation
• Loss of Self
• Emotional Addiction

Healing is possible.

With support, education, healthy boundaries, and trauma-informed therapy, individuals can rebuild self-worth and develop healthier relationships.

You deserve relationships rooted in respect, safety, and mutual care.

Meet Zen! 🦜💚

Zen is one of our beloved therapy buddies at Holistic Therapy & Wellness.

Animals have a unique way of helping people feel calm, connected, and emotionally safe. For many children and adults, interacting with animals can reduce anxiety, encourage social engagement, improve emotional regulation, and create opportunities for meaningful therapeutic conversations.

Zen helps bring smiles, curiosity, comfort, and connection into our healing environment.

The human-animal bond can be a powerful part of the therapeutic process.

🌿 Sometimes healing begins with a feathered friend.
