Care One, Inc.

Care One, Inc. Care One is a purpose-driven staffing partner founded in 1993, connecting skilled professionals with organizations through trust, understanding, and care.

Care One has been providing swift and effective staffing solutions since 1993. Founded by President and CEO Steven Cook, the company was created in response to a growing workforce gap and a widespread frustration with how staffing was being done. Too often, professionals were placed without consideration for their goals, and organizations were left without the right people to support their operati

ons. Steven recognized that the real challenge wasn’t just a shortage of talent—it was the lack of meaningful connection between people and the organizations they served. Rather than focusing on volume or rapid expansion, he chose a different path. His goal was not to become the largest staffing agency, but to become the most trusted. From that vision came a simple philosophy that still guides Care One today:

We listen, we learn, we understand. What began as a small operation supporting a handful of professionals and organizations has grown into a multi-state staffing partner. Today, Care One connects skilled professionals with clients across a range of industries and settings, bringing the same relationship-driven approach, quality standards, and purpose to every placement.

A lot can be learned about a workplace from a simple question.

Not a major issue. Just an everyday question someone needs help with.

Some teams make it easy to ask and easy to answer. On other teams, everyone seems too busy to stop for a moment.

Neither happens overnight. They're usually the result of habits that develop over time.

What's a small workplace behavior that tells you a lot about a team?

Working with a staffing partner shouldn't feel like being pushed toward a quick decision.

At Care One, we focus on understanding what people are really looking for before making a match.

That means honest conversations, clear communication, and support throughout the hiring process.

Simple in theory. Important in practice.

What has made a hiring experience stand out to you—in a good way?

One of the first signs a workplace is getting stretched too thin is when the same person starts handling everything.

Questions, shift coverage, training, fixing problems, helping everyone else stay caught up — it slowly starts landing on whoever’s the most reliable.

Not because anyone assigned it that way. It just happens over time.

The difficult part is that it can look “fine” for a while because the work is still getting done. But eventually that person is spending more time keeping the team afloat than doing the job they were actually hired to do.

Most staffing problems don’t start with a crisis.

Usually they start quietly, when dependable people keep taking on more than the team was designed to support.

A bigger title isn’t always the most important kind of career growth.

Some jobs end up being valuable because of the skills built along the way — communication, adaptability, leadership, problem-solving, or simply learning how to work through difficult situations.

Those things tend to carry into every role after that.

What’s a skill picked up from a previous job that still helps today?

I don’t think most people actually hate working.

I think they get tired of jobs where everything feels urgent, schedules constantly change, communication is all over the place, and taking time off somehow becomes stressful.

A lot of people aren’t asking for a perfect job.
They just want work that feels manageable again.

You can usually tell what kind of workplace you’re in by how people react when someone takes time off.

Some places are completely normal about it.

Other places react like one PTO request just created a company-wide emergency 😂

Honestly, the reaction usually tells you more than the handbook does.

What’s the most memorable workplace reaction to PTO you’ve seen?

One thing that gets underestimated in hiring is how long decisions take.

From the inside, it usually feels reasonable. A few days to sync. Waiting on one more conversation. Making sure everyone’s aligned.

But candidates experience that time very differently.

If your process stretches, you’re not just taking your time. You’re giving other companies time to move faster.

That’s when strong candidates quietly drop off or accept something else before you’re ready.

It’s not always about changing the whole process. Sometimes it’s just tightening the gaps between steps and being clear on who actually needs to weigh in.

Because in hiring, small delays add up quickly. And they don’t stay small for long.

You can work in completely different industries and still recognize the same office behaviors.

Someone opens their laptop and sighs before doing anything.
Someone starts cleaning their desk instead of the task they’ve been avoiding.
Someone says “quick question” and everybody nearby suddenly gets nervous 😂

Workplaces really do have their own unspoken language.

What’s one office behavior everyone understands without explanation?

Nobody should feel like they have to leave parts of themselves outside the workplace just to fit in.

Creating a workplace where people don’t have to second-guess how they speak, dress, or show up should never be treated like a seasonal initiative.

Pride Month is important, but making people feel respected and comfortable at work matters all year long.
