Local 401 members had the opportunity to support a great cause yesterday at the Fight for Air Climb. Firefighters climbed 1500 steps at Ford Field to support the American Lung Association alongside hundreds of firefighters from all over the state. Thank you to everyone who donated and we look forward to be back next year!

Yesterdays shift 2 responded the classic “cat in a tree” call. Tower 2-1 was used to get the cat out of the tree about 50 feet in the air. A majority of the time animals will work their way out of tough situations, but with the cat being stuck in the tree for 18+ hours it was decided that fire department intervention was necessary. We’re happy to say the cat was returned to its owners happy and healthy.

Like so many in this state, we continue to run 2 firefighter engines and trucks. Not only does understaffing rigs put firefighters at risk, it also leads to increased burn out, less rest time, and inadequate responses to emergencies.
