I became a dental hygienist in 2013, and after 10 years of practicing, I knew I wanted a change of pace! After dealing with my own TMJ pain since I was a teenager and seeing a lack of treatment options for this painful condition, I decided to branch out and start my own business focused on managing jaw pain, headaches, and stress! Hello to all my new and old friends and followers! I figured it’s a good time to reintroduce myself! 🫶🏼

My name is Christine Janzen, and I’m a woman of many hats: dental hygienist, massage therapist, myofunctional therapist, pitty mama, wifey, auntie, hoop dancer, and, recently, plant mom! 🌱

I opened Jaw Zen Therapies nearly two years ago! (Why yes, that is a pun on my last name 😂)

After finding holistic healing for an injury that ultimately caused me to stop practicing dental hygiene clinically, I knew I needed to pivot my career. Having dealt with my own TMJ issues since I was a teenager, I also realized there was a need for more conservative approaches to TMJ dysfunction and related issues.

And just like that, a light bulb moment sparked the idea for this business. 💡

Through a blended therapeutic approach, I help my clients find long-term relief from jaw pain, headaches, neck tension, nervous system dysregulation, swallowing difficulties, vocal issues, and related dysfunction. (The list is pretty long, lol.)

As a practitioner whose main focus is helping clients out with jaw pain, I very quickly realized how much it relates to other ailments. From headaches, ear issues, nervous system dysfunction, etc.

After a vocal coach (shoutout hilarymai) reached out to me to see if I provided services for muscle tension dysphonia, specifically laryngeal massage, I was honest and said I could probably help her clients, BUT I didn’t have the hands-on training I felt I needed to give them what she was looking for.

After searching for an in-person training course, I found out about Walt Fritz PT and his Manual Therapy for Voice and Swallowing Disorders course! I waited nearly a year to take this course, and it was 1000% worth the wait!

I’m very proud to expand my services to help Hilary’s vocal clients and give some extra help to my clients with swallowing dysfunction!
