1 John 1:8 NKJV
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
The Bible reminds us time and again how easy it is for us to deceive ourselves. And even after decades in recovery I can have periods of uneasiness, strife and fear of the future while telling myself I'm doing all that I can. But guess what, that's not always true and once again I've deceived myself by believing the thought that I'm doing all that I can.
Thankfully I have a couple of short checklists for myself that help me cut through the flurry that can be my mind. And they are:
"Am I doing what I'm suppose to be doing, am I not doing what I shouldn't be doing, and am I making a difference in the life of someone that can't do anything for me ?"
Second checklist:
"Where am I at with my attendance, be it church, meetings fellowshipping, where am I at with my relationship with my mentor, sponsor and or discipler, and am I making a difference in the life of someone that can't do anything for me."
As a Christian in recovery I've found these easy means of self evaluation extremely helpful because I can fall victim to the lies of the enemy with one being that I'm doing all that I should be doing, and these lists cut through my minds chatter and help me see some simple truths. And for me the truth is that if I'm lacking as far as these lists are concerned, then I'm usually not enjoying the freedom and comfort that the Lord has for me in great abundance. God bless you one and all.
Psalm 118:24 NKJV
This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.
