Gold, all around us. 💛

This past Saturday, the Foundation of Onvida Health, in partnership with the AdvoKATE Foundation, hosted our annual Go Gold Walk & Lighting Ceremony to honor families who've faced a pediatric cancer diagnosis and raise awareness during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Our community gathered in the Serenity Garden, then, as the sky turned gold, lit necklaces in tribute and walked together around a hospital glowing gold in their honor. The hospital will continue to shine gold each night throughout September as a tribute to Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

It wasn’t just a walk or a color. It was a garden full of people who refuse to let any family walk through this alone.

Veronnica is a physician assistant specializing in orthopedic care. She earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Franklin Pierce University in Goodyear, AZ and is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

We're proud to welcome Alexander Gavralidis, MD, to the Onvida Health family!

Dr. Gavralidis is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology. He earned his medical degree from the Medical University of Wroclaw in Wroclaw, Poland and completed his internal medicine residency and chief residency at Salem Hospital in Salem, MA, followed by a hematology and medical oncology fellowship at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, CA.

His areas of expertise include leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes, lymphoma and cancer immunotherapy.

Dr. Cahn is board certified in general surgery and vascular surgery. He earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh, PA and completed his general surgery residency at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center in Orange, CA, followed by a vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, MA.

We’re proud to bring sports physicals closer to the South County community! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Yesterday, we hosted our first Onvida Health Sports Physicals event in South County at Southwest Early College Academy (formerly Southwest Junior High), providing free sports physicals to more than 100 students from Southwest Early College Academy and San Luis Middle School.

We created this event after hearing about the challenges families in San Luis face, including transportation barriers and busy schedules that can make it difficult to get a sports physical. By bringing physicals directly to students, we’re helping make care more accessible and giving more students the opportunity to participate in the sports they love.

A special thank you to Gadsden Elementary School District #32, Southwest Early College Academy and San Luis Middle School for helping make this event possible. We’re also grateful to our Onvida Health Family Medicine San Luis team, Helio Angulo, NP, Marybel Gonzalez, FNP, Gerardo Sanchez, PA-C and Sports Medicine Fellow Dr. Jose Rincon Paz for conducting the physicals, along with our MAs and volunteers who supported intakes, vitals and vision screenings.

We’re excited to support students and families across South County and bring care closer to the communities we serve.

Dr. Cooper is a pediatric hospitalist serving patients at Onvida Health Yuma Medical Center. She earned her medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, NM and completed her pediatric residency at Loma Linda Children's Hospital in Loma Linda, CA.

She is board certified in pediatrics and is dedicated to providing compassionate care for children and their families during their hospital stay.
