this twitching thing is quite contagious 🦆🦅🐦🪶🐓 it’s pretty wild how quickly you start to see the beauty already enveloping you when you slow down and just notice . . . . .

…not rushing or forcing,
just n o t i c i n g

- what stillness and silence feel like right now
- what rhythm you’re in step with in this moment
- the beauty you’re already entangled with

what rhythm are you in right now? . . . . .

In the last uncoiling moments of this serpentine cycle, I’ve been thinking about skin

Not just the human fleshy kind, but the many skins that wrap the world around us — the bark, moss, stone, water, soil, the thin skin of a potently poisonous frog, the dermal denticles of a speedy shark, the betulin filled bark of a silvery birch, the rust that wraps your garden gate

the soft films and surfaces where life meets life

…even the skin of your gravy has something to say about materiality

but skin isn’t just a sack; it’s a threshold, a meeting place.

Our skin teems with microbes, memories, and weather marks just like the many skins of nature.

And when we meet other shedding/changing/shifting skins with a bit of tenderness — palm to bark, fingers in moss, cheek to wind — something shifts. The boundary softens. We remember we’re not separate from the world, but in a constant sensual relationship with it

And so, whenever you feel like it, you can rub up against a tree (ask its permission first),
you can softly press paper to bark, and see what impressions are revealed in this meeting of creative bodies,

you can celebrate the beauty of these impermanent skins before they shed and begin a new cycle,

you can make a portrait of a pine and hang it in your home like a photo of a loved one

(it is a loved one) . . . . .
