Schneider Regional Medical Center

Schneider Regional Medical Center SRMC's priority is to provide you with the best medical and healthcare services . Schneider Regional Medical Center is the umbrella entity for three U.S.

Schneider Regional Medical Center is a healthcare system comprised of three facilities operating with one vision: "To be the health care provider of choice to the residents of the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean." Virgin Islands' facilities:

The Roy Lester Schneider Hospital serves the medical needs of patients from throughout the Caribbean. As the only acute medical care facility on St. Thomas,

it is a critical component in the comprehensive strategy for the health and welfare of our community and region. Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center, located on St. John, is the island’s only 24-hour outpatient health facility offering both primary and preventive health services. MKSCHC utilizes Telemedicine, in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic (Fla), to increase local access to certain specialties, and is the authorized primary care facility for clients of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The facility also provides services in women’s health, well baby care, immunizations, nutritional counseling, immunizations, radiology, laboratory, minor surgery, and community education. The Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute is a comprehensive cancer care facility, providing a range of services including radiation oncology, chemotherapy, surgical and prosthesis consultation, clinical research, support services, as well as professional and public education lectures and seminars. The concept for design and the technologies in use is state-of-the-art, intended to support a fully patient centered facility.

For Dave Jeffers Jr., healthcare may look different from the IT side, but the mission remains the same: helping people.

As a Network Media Engineer, Dave knows that the support he provides behind the scenes helps the teams on the front lines deliver safe, efficient, and compassionate care to patients. After 10 years at SRMC, he continues to find purpose in knowing that his work helps others do theirs.

One moment that stands out to Dave happened when he noticed a patient waiting near the elevator. After realizing she was afraid of elevators, Dave rode with her to help her feel more comfortable. When she later asked him to accompany her again, he made sure to follow through.

For Dave, it comes down to treating people the way he would want his own family to be treated. Whether he is supporting a colleague, helping a patient feel at ease, or simply doing what he knows is right, he believes small acts can make a meaningful difference. "I provide the support they need to be able to do their jobs, so a patient can feel heard, cared for, respected, and safe.”

Dave’s work is a reminder that every department plays a part in the patient experience. Through service, support, and leading by example, he continues to create a positive ripple throughout SRMC. This is What Would I Want.

For Julia Odlum, every patient deserves to be treated with the same compassion, dignity, and respect she would want for her own family. Whether at the bedside or behind the scenes in case management, she believes that listening, protecting a patient's privacy, and leading with kindness are essential to exceptional care.

One experience has stayed with her throughout her career. Julia cared for a patient who was nearing the end of life with no family by his side. She remained with him, prayed, sang, and offered comfort alongside a colleague, ensuring he did not spend his final moments alone. It was a reminder that sometimes the greatest act of care is simply being present.

Today, while she works in utilization review, Julia continues to advocate for patients by helping ensure they receive the appropriate level of care and that the hospital has the resources needed to continue serving the community. She also believes one of healthcare's greatest responsibilities is listening.

"Sometimes patients and families know when something isn't right," she says. "If we take the time to listen, we can make all the difference."

Known for her calm presence and genuine respect for everyone she encounters, Julia believes kindness creates a ripple effect throughout the hospital. Her approach reminds us that every interaction matters and reflects the heart of the What Would I Want campaign treating every patient and every family the way we would want our own to be treated.
