Today, Cancer Support VI, along with YAG Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. and American Cancer Society is honored to provide a statement of testimony before the Committee on Health, Hospitals, and Human Services at the invitation of Senator Ray Fonseca. This important hearing will focus on the impact of cancer in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the challenges faced by patients and their families, and the resources available to support them throughout their cancer journey.
This is more than a hearing, it's an opportunity to ensure the voices of our cancer warriors, caregivers, healthcare providers, and community partners are heard. We encourage everyone to tune in and follow the discussion as we work together to strengthen cancer care and support across the Territory.
Real change happens when nonprofits, healthcare organizations, government agencies, and community leaders come together with a shared purpose. By working collaboratively, we can identify gaps, advocate for meaningful solutions, and improve access to care and support for every Virgin Islander facing cancer.

The Committee on Health, Hospitals & Human Services has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. in the Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall on St. Thomas to receive an update on the following:
BLOCK I
The Committee will receive testimony regarding the potential and observed public health risks associated with prolonged exposure to untreated sewage throughout the Territory, including a detailed assessment of the risks of waterborne and airborne illnesses, the potential contamination of groundwater, coastal waters, and surrounding environments, and the impact of untreated sewage
exposure on vulnerable populations, including children, seniors, individuals with compromised immune systems, and persons with respiratory or chronic health conditions.
The members will also receive information on any public advisories, warnings, mitigation measures, or emergency responses issued by the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority, as well as any coordination, communication, or joint response efforts with the Virgin Islands Department of Health and other relevant agencies to address and mitigate the public health
concerns associated with untreated sewage exposure.
