Another impactful training on Suicidality and Wellness at CAHS! While this is a difficult and often uncomfortable topic, the engagement, openness, and receptiveness of our teachers were truly encouraging. Conversations like these are essential to breaking the stigma, increasing awareness, and equipping educators with the knowledge and confidence to recognize warning signs, respond with compassion, and support students who may be struggling. Kudos to The Virgin Islands Department of Education!

Our children need us to listen, understand, and create safe spaces where they can openly talk about their emotional wellness and mental health. Join us for an important Community Town Hall Forum focused on recognizing the warning signs of emotional distress and su***de, understanding how to respond, and learning ways we can support our children before a crisis occurs.

This conversation is not only about our children—it is also about YOU. We will share valuable information and resources to help you care for your own emotional wellness, because taking care of yourself allows you to be emotionally present and available for your children.

Every clinician sits in a position of power, regardless of culture, ethnicity, or race. That position shapes what a client feels safe saying, what gets heard, and what gets missed. Completing a course in cultural competence does not change that. The work happens in how we prepare to sit across from another person.

Before returning to session, four questions are worth answering honestly. What identities do you hold privilege in? Where do you hold marginalized identities? What assumptions do you bring into session? How do you respond when a conversation turns to race, gender, or oppression?

Identity, values, coping styles, and help-seeking behavior all influence the relationship between clinician and client. Examining our own place in that relationship is part of the clinical work.
