🚨 86% OF PATIENTS AT THE END OF LIFE EXPERIENCE UNNECESSARY PAIN

This alarming figure was a key point discussed at the CME workshop “Pain Management in Cancer and Palliative Care”, held at FV Hospital on 8 August 2026. Organised by FV Hospital in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Pain Association and the Medical Education Exchange Team (MEET), the event brought together nearly 200 doctors, healthcare professionals and experts in pain management, oncology and palliative care, both in person and online.

🎤 In his opening remarks, Mr Sam Lee, Deputy CEO of FV Hospital, highlighted FV’s ongoing commitment to keeping its medical practices aligned with international standards and promoting multidisciplinary collaboration to enhance the quality of treatment and improve patients’ quality of life.

• A holistic approach: Providing palliative care from initial symptom control through to improving overall quality of life.
• Multimodal pain management: Updates on the RAT model, the application of the WHO analgesic ladder (Steps 1 and 2), and optimising the role of radiotherapy for pain relief.
• Safe and effective opioid use: Standardising indications and initiation, monitoring treatment response, managing side effects, and applying flexible opioid rotation strategies when tolerance develops.
• Advanced interventions and long-term support: Applying interventional pain procedures, managing osteoporosis following cancer treatment, and controlling respiratory symptoms at the end of life.

A key highlight was the case discussion and Q&A session, where physicians exchanged practical insights on common clinical scenarios, including when to initiate opioid therapy, how to manage side effects effectively, when opioid rotation may be necessary, and which approach to consider when pain is not adequately controlled.

These discussions underscored that pain management is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It requires individualised assessment, continuous monitoring and flexible adjustments to meet each patient’s needs.

💙 Through this CME workshop, FV Hospital continues to support continuing medical education, professional exchange and the sharing of clinical knowledge. These efforts help bridge the gap between medical knowledge and clinical practice, supporting better pain control, holistic care and improved quality of life for patients with cancer in particular and patients at the end of life more broadly.

PERSISTENT KNEE PAIN? EXPLORE NON-SURGICAL PAIN RELIEF WITH A GLOBAL PIONEER IN G*E AT FV HOSPITAL

💥 On 18 August 2026, FV Hospital will host a dedicated consultation session for patients seeking treatment options for persistent knee osteoarthritis pain. The session will be led by Dr Yuji Okuno, PhD, a pioneer in Genicular Artery Embolisation (G*E), alongside Dr Huynh Huu Danh, Specialist Level I, Interventional Embolisation Specialist at FV Hospital.

Are you living with persistent knee osteoarthritis pain that affects your mobility and daily activities? When medication and physical therapy no longer provide adequate relief, but you are not ready for major surgery, Genicular Artery Embolisation (G*E) may offer a minimally invasive treatment option:

⭐ Minimally Invasive: A small catheter (only 2–3 mm) is guided through a blood vessel to deliver tiny embolic particles to abnormal blood vessels associated with inflammation around the knee. By reducing blood flow through these abnormal vessels, G*E aims to reduce inflammation and knee pain.

This observation opened up a completely new approach to knee osteoarthritis treatment, leading to the development of Genicular Artery Embolisation (G*E). After more than a decade of development, with more than 3,000 successful procedures performed and hundreds of physicians trained, Dr Okuno's G*E technique has spread from Japan to the United States, Europe and Australia, helping tens of thousands of patients regain easier, more comfortable movement.
